One second jolt magnitude 5,3 followed to 12H56 (04H56 GMT). It occurred to 11 km in the north of Ilan and to 75 km under ground.

More the violent one earthquake of the history of Taiwan, of 7,6 degrees on the scale of Richter, had occurred in September 1999, making 2.400 dead. The island is regularly shaken by seisms.

a 5.0 quake is one ten thousanth the strength of the quake that caused the tsunami. Probably too small to even post here unless it drops a bunch of buildings and kills people. Huge numbers of these quakes happen each year.

When the news media reports it, it can be considered significant. Usually the media is a bit late in reporting a quake, if they report one at all.

Barely an earthquake.

Yeah, but it was a "double earthquake"!

What will they say when the supervolcanoes erupt? Krakatoa was barely a volcano?

Check out this site. I have it bookmarked at look at it everyday. It's really incredible to see how these earthquakes come in waves. The map is interactive, and when you move your cursor over a circle, it lists the date, time, location and magnitude of the quakes.

Here's the link: HERE

WOW That is some heavy activity.

Usually bd posts that on the quake threads and to be honest with you that is like five times what usually shows up.

I read a link to the solar flares over the week end and the relation to earthquakes and volcanic activity.

I don't understand the science or if it is junk but a good coincidence all the same.
