Colorado Mortuary Apologizes for Giving Babies From Abortions to Church

Boulder, CO (LifeNews.com) -- In the latest development in a controversy over a Colorado church burying the remains of babies who died from abortions at a late-term abortion facility, the mortuary that provided the church with the ashen remains has apologized.

Meanwhile, a local hospital said it will institute new rules on what happens to the remains of babies that die from abortions, stillbirths or miscarriage there.

Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church became the subject of a local and national controversy when it announced that it had been burying the babies for a decade at a memorial located on the church property.

Crist Mortuary, which serviced the abortion facility where the aborted babies were obtained, issued an apology Wednesday.

The apology was given to Avista Adventist Hospital representatives, where Crist Mortuary also obtained the bodies of deceased unborn babies.

Avista says it will put in place new rules clarifying how the remains of unborn babies are to be buried. Avista CEO John Sackett told the Associated Press that he met with Crist Mortuary officials about the arrangement.

Sackett said he and the mortuary agreed to bury the remains from babies who die from abortions at Avista in a nonsectarian setting apart from the church. That's if the mother does not indicate where she wants the baby's remains to be buried.

"We never thought to ask that question," he said of potential burial sites.

Sackett indicated to AP that Sacred Heart could be chosen by someone wanting a burial site.

"It's a neat thing what they're doing in Boulder," Sackett said. "But if the (women) aren't Catholic, we don't want it done without their consent."

Susan LaVelle, organizer of the church ceremony, said she favors asking women where to bury their babies who die.

"I love it that women actually will have the opportunity to say what they would like done with the remains of their unborn child," she told AP.

Avista does a small number of abortions, typically when the unborn child has no chance to live outside of the mother's womb.

The apology wasn't enough to satisfy local abortion advocates, who have protests planned at Crist and Sacred Heart.

"Crist knew what they were doing,'' said Peggy Loonan, executive director of Life and Liberty for Women, which backs abortion. "I don't buy (the apology) for a second.''

Geez, they murdered their babies and don't want to see them buried? That is evil.

The world turned upside down. Burial rather than disposal in a dumpster and they have to apologize?

"We never thought to ask that question," he said of potential burial sites.

That is because it never occurred to them (or the "mom") that the "products of conception" that they were disposing of so lightly were actually deceased human beings that deserved burial.

Is this where we are now that the Pro Abortion people resent giving those aborted babies and others a proper burial and prayers said?
I find this sick and revolting. My God is there any human decency left?

This country has gotten to be one f-ed up place. This person even states that it's an unborn CHILD. Heartbreaking.

So the "aborted" are NOT merely a bunch of unidentifiable blood and tissue, but "babies" that requiring burial??

There's so much wrong with this entire process -- I don't know how some people sleep at night.

Someone didn't get the memo. It's not a baby, it's the product of conception. Sheesh! Some people never learn.

I think what the woman is saying is, she's glad the "mother" will be asked, "And how shall we dispose of the fetus, Ms. X?" Women having this procedure will now have to face the reality that they are terminating a life, not removing a tumor.

Take heart. This tragedy is a self-correcting problem. After the liberals are through killing their young all that will remain will be conservative families.

I just don't see how these "mothers" can have their babies killed, THEN get all concerned about what happens to the child. If it wasn't a child then why would it matter what the Catholics do with the remains?

That is because it would acknowledge that the 'fetus' that they like to believe isn't alive isn't actually anything but a lump. Burial makes it human.

I think they ought to make the 'mother' look at the baby after it's aborted. But no, the abortion clinics would not allow that because business would drop.

And they call republicans corporate pigs.

No, it's more like they evacuated their womb of some lifeless accumulation of cells that is neither living nor a child...and then, AFTER the evacuation, after convincing themselves it's no big deal because it isn't killing an unborn child, that it is just an evacuation of their womb, THEN they (the hospital) makes the claim that the 'cells' were actually the some-sort-of-child that the aborting mother still has rights over.

You're right, though. The entire situation is pure evil. They want to prohibit the burials neither on religious nor on the 'mother's rights' grounds, but because the term 'burial' implies that it was a living human being at one point, and this makes it difficult for the abortuaries to stick to their argument that it isn't a baby but a 'viable tissue mass.'

In other words, the abortuaries object purely on dialectic grounds.

When the taking of life hinges on the play of words and the positing of arguments rather than on the value of human life, we truly have wandered into an evil wilderness.

Our first grandchild, a grandaughter, will be born sometime around the 1st of May. Sonograms taken in mid December showed quite clearly that she has her mother's nose. :) They also showed that there is only one artery in the cord, where usually there are two. That's not much of big deal though, it occurs in about one in a hundred cases. The December images showed that there is no evidence of Downe's Syndrome, which is weakly associated with the condition. However they were not able to get a good image of her heart in December. Malformation of the chambers is also associated with the single artery. The good news is that the images taken about 10 days ago show a perfectly formed heart. :) They also show that she has a big head, average torso and short legs. Just like both of her parents, and one grandmother and one of her grandfather (but not the from the same set :) ) The other grandpa, the old Cat here, has the big head, but a long torso and arms, with shorter than average legs, much like a gorilla.

The sonogram taken at about 6 or 8 weeks after conception didn't show much, but it clearly showed a little person or maybe a little monkey, chimp or gorilla, hard to tell at that point, and often after birth as well if it weren't for the lack of much hair on a human baby. In our family that often includes the head. :)
