LONDON The singer formerly known as Cat Stevens will headline a fund-raising concert in Indonesia for victims of the Asian tsunami.
Yusuf Islam will have top billing at Monday's concert in Jakarta that will raise money for victims from Indonesia's Aceh province, according to his Web site.
Islam has composed a new song, Indian Ocean, and recently recorded it with musicians including A.R. Rahman, Magne Furuholmen and Neil Primrose. The song will be released in February to raise money for children orphaned by the Dec. 26 disaster. "Like everyone else, I was so shaken by the enormity of this human tragedy, and the song just came without effort," the 56-year-old singer said in the statement.
The track includes the use of instruments, which Islam has avoided since embracing Islam, but he cautioned: "It's not a return to Cat Stevens, I see it more as a natural response to express my concern as a Muslim and as an artist; I believe both can exist side by side particularly when the cause is right."
That's a very silly sentence -- was the author trying to be funny?
and the song just came without effort
Being crass, that sounds kind of like taking a leak.
If I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south
That's neither News, nor Event.
It's pure coincidence he and his fellows only show concern when Muslims have problems, unlike the eeeevil U.S.
I hope this Cat sees the light. He knows us. He knows we really do care about victims. Those poor children, it's very heartbreaking. I sincerely hope he does see to it the money gets to the victims. I hope he is not being duped to make money for Muslim schemes. It's very difficult to decide whether he is a dupe and if this songs profits will go to funding more terrible things.
But I always did love his song, Into White. He seemed to be a sincere guy to me.
I WAS going to write a check for $1000 for the tsunami victims until I read the Muslims there said they only wanted us there until they got all the aid then wanted us to 'get the hell out'. That did it, I went and bought a new TV instead!!!
I know what you mean.
I'm sure he will see to it that the proceeds go to the "right people".
I'm sure Osama bin Laden is real charming too.
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild wave...
ugh
Be funny if the Indonesians refused to let him in the country.
I am a Cat Stevens music fan. I could care less about his venture in a different form of worship. It isn't any of my business. And yes, he has demonstrated great sincerity in his beliefs.
