WASHINGTON -- The American military's continued presence in Iraq is fanning the flames of conflict, and signals the need for a new detailed timeline to bring the troops home, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy said Thursday. Just three days before the Iraqi people go to the polls to elect a new government, the Massachusetts Democrat said America must give Iraq back to its people rather than continue an occupation that parallels the failed politics of the Vietnam war."The U.S. military presence has become part of the problem, not part of the solution," said Kennedy in remarks prepared for delivery at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. "We need a new plan that sets fair and realistic goals for self-government in Iraq, and works with the Iraqi government on a specific timetable for the honorable homecoming of our forces."
Although Kennedy is not the first member of Congress to call for a withdrawal of the troops, he is the first senator to do so. His remarks continued what has been a long and blistering assault on the Bush administration's Iraq policies.
In an interview last year with The Associated Press, Kennedy called the war a "fraud made up in Texas," and said the administration misled the people about the threats leading up to the war.

Laying out a detailed plan for Iraq, Kennedy said the first goal should be for the United Nations -- not the United States -- to convene an international meeting to help the new government take shape and draft a constitution.

They know it and they don't care. American lives mean nothing to them when it's measured against their attempt to regain power.
"My presence has become part of the problem, not part of the solution," said Kennedy in remarks prepared for delivery at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. "We need a new plan that sets fair and realistic goals for retrieving young women fom submerged automobiles, and works with the locals on a specific timetable for me to arrange the dating of another unsuspecting young woman." ... In an interview last year with The Associated Press, Kennedy called himself a "fraud made up in Massachusetts," and said he misled the people about how deep the water is where he lives.
I want to personally thank MA for electing Teddy...the more he opens his mouth the worse he makes his party look...
Exactly. I will never forgive them for this.
I certainly hope the people of Massachusetts are tuned in and are amused at their two court jesters, because the rest of the country has changed channels.
Criminals are fueled by police, so stop policing the streets.
Never trust a Liberal or a rattlesnake, in that order.
Today in Iraq, just as during the Vietnam war, the Democrat party is fueling the enemy. Just goes to show, in their eyes, you are only allowed to defend the U.S. when a lying RAPIST is in the White House.
Message to Ted.The US and our military fight evil not cause it.
Thanks for becoming the face and voice of the dem party.
Poor-excuses-for-human-beings like Kennedy, sKerry, and Boxer are RATS, skunks, snakes, and pigs all rolled up into one miserable, disgusting, low-life package. Normally, I would care less how sick these SOB's choose to be if only they weren't also traitors who threaten my life and the lives of my family just as much as islamic terrorists do. I loathe them all.
I call for a [hiccup!] public apology to Mary Jo Kopechne's family. She would have turned 65 years old this July.
Yes. Establishing elections in Iraq is a big score over in the Bush column and that is apparently the only way that the Kennedy/ Kerri crowd can see it.
Yes - they know that if we are successful in spreading Freedom, they will have an even harder time taking it away from us in America.
If you look and listen, it should not be too difficult to come to the conclusion that there is an evil force and that the Dims are solidly on its side.
The only good thing about Teddy is he is the face of the Democrat party
Teddy, go take a long walk, er, ride, off a short pier.
And booze is fueling Kennedy.
To have Kennedy and Boxer hogging the spotlight as the face of the Dems proves that God really is on the President's side. I hope they never realize how this is going down in the red states. I suspect this is a charade put on so that Hellery can appear "moderate" by comparison, but most people are not that "nuanced" and they only see these two despicable faces howling on TV day after day.
