JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Monday it is launching an investigating of nearly five dozen ballots cast in the November 2004 Presidential election.

Bill Scheu, the interim supervisor of elections, says there are 59 possible cases of double voting.

In 41 cases, early, absentee and election day voting were all used to cast more than one ballot, each of which were counted. In 18 cases, provisional ballots were prevented from being counted.

"I promised the voters of Duval County a fair, accurate, accessible and legal election. Unfortunately, these suspect votes have been cast, but it has been my goal to ensure proper legal action is taken against anyone who whose to compromise the integrity of the voting process," said Scheu.

The FBI is helping in the investigation.

Double voting is punishable with up to five years in prison.

It is about time that we had some serious effort put into investigating voter fraud. For people who voted twice, withhold adjudication, 2+ years probation, and serious community service.

For those organizing the fraud or have voted 5+ times, put their backsides in jail for a year and leave them with a felony conviction on their record. That will get peoples attention quick!

The obvious question is: WHERE is the U.S. Attorney;s Office and the FBI in the state of WASHINGTON ???
I presume they must be crooked and corrupt? Playing with themselves?

Five years! How are they going to be expected to double-vote in the next election?

The DEMOCs say felons of nonviolent crime should be able to vote in prison and then felons of violent crimes get to vote once they're out of prison.

ping and an addtional not of interest.

No matter how it's looked at, the Alaska Democratic Party's program of getting people to apply for absentee ballots by mail last fall raises questions and should not be allowed to recur--by any political party. Whether the Democratic Party had any sinister intentions by inserting itself between voters and the state Division of Elections isn't known and is largely irrelevant. What matters most is the appearance that something might have been amiss, either with the electoral process or with the handling of information contained on the ballot application.

Alaskans cannot allow the perception that something might be irregular with the electoral process--any part of it, from voter registration, to absentee ballot applications, to voting, and, finally, to the tallying.

The Alaska Democratic Party's effort to encourage people to vote by absentee ballot, through filling out an application printed up by the party but based on the state's application, seemed an appropriate cause. No one could argue with the need to have more people participate in the election, even if the party's motive naturally is for political gain.

What happened next is where problems might have occurred and why the law must be changed: The Democrats' absentee ballot effort had people mailing their completed ballot applications, which contained more information than that required by the state, to the party and on open-faced forms for all to see. So much for privacy. The party then delivered the applications to the Division of Elections. Having voters send their ballot applications to anyone other than the state is wrong, though apparently legal.

This is an excerpt.
