These initiatives will only pass in the conservative states,

Really ? California is a conservative state ? We passed it and the black robes overturned the law.

The idea is to do away with national identity, so that we become one balkanized squabbling nass (or many squabbling factiobs) that needs big govt. to keep us from fighting. We will no longer be a United States and probably won't be able to keep that pesky Constitution.

this actually passed in Calif not long ago but was struck down by the courts as unconstitutional due to some of the wording and such but even here the majority of people voted for curbing some benefits and reporting illegals using emergency rooms etc......I think on this issue even many Dems don't like this crap

GW is walking a dangerous tightrope. If there is another serious attack, and it is found that some of the perps are illegally in the country, the failure to provide border control and support of illegals could be GWB's 'monica'. The Dems, many Republicans and much of the public would demand new leadership.

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY! I CANNOT BELIEVE BUSH WOULD RISK HIS LEGACY THIS WAY! ILLEGALS WHO DO NOT RESPECT OUR LAWS SHOULD BE DEPORTED IMMEDIATELY AND BIG FINES SHOULD GO TO PEOPLE WHO EMPLOY THEM.

Immigration-control activists announced a bill to crack down on benefits available to illegal aliens in Arkansas

Don't worry, Jorge Bush will put a stop to this before it takes effect. him, or Huckabee.

Do you have any idea of their reasoning for this?

Yet one more reason why I don't trust the government with my money.

I READ SOMEWHERE THAT WE CAN BORROW MONEY FROM THE WORLD BANK FOR EACH PERSON RESIDING IN THIS COUNTRY. WISH I HAD THE ARTICLE.

You are going to be arresting a lot of working single moms. Let's not go overboard on the issue.

Your reasoning is correct, but there is more:

The statement was about 'big fines'. So how does that get to 'arresting...working single moms'?

Laws already on the books, if enforced, would be fining companies for hiring illegals.

Just curious, but do you own a business that happens to have a few illegals working there? Your defensive statement sure makes it sound that way.

Bush came from a border state where there were local understandings between Texas and Mexico. The problem became large recently when gangs composed of malos cabrones set up shop in our major cities. Bush's good intentions got slammed by reality. There are very bad people among us now.
The first step on immigration reform is to empty our jails and prisons to their country of origin. Why should the US host those scumbags?

Better get a new Quiji board, no I don't have any illegal employees but a lot of you people remind me of the Klu Klux Klan.

You're absolutely RIGHT--the GOP is guilty, too! There is another issue why our borders are open like they are, & it isn't being discussed: it's the fact that the Establishment on BOTH political parties (& the blantant "one-world" progressive wing of the Dims, especially) care nothing about US sovereignty. They are the open-borders crowd on crack....we've got NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, & the UN, & that's just the tip of the iceberg!

That also doesn't include what's coming down the pike: CAFTA (the Central American Free Trade Agreement), LOST (the Law Of the Sea Treaty), & FTAA (the Free Trade Area of the Americas). Our nation's sovereignty & independence has MANY enemies--the worst of which, come from within, & are our elected leaders!

do you think all of the 19 were here legally. nope. all that has to be done is enforce the laws already in place . It is illegal for businesses to hire illegals. Period.

As Victor Davis Hanson said, the Dems love the votes and
plenty of Republicans love the cheap labor. BOTH major
parties (and especially Bush) are failing us. The vast
majority of the people want to control illegal immigration.
Studies show that each illegal receives about $25,000
per person per year in social services ABOVE what he
contributes in labor or taxes. Meanwhile, we live amidst
the crime, bankrupt school districts, insolvent hospitals
and higher taxes to deal with the crisis. And the world
is laughing at the great Superpower that can't even
control its own borders. I'm sure bin Laden and other
terrorists are also laughing -- and making plans.

I'm trying to follow your reasoning, but I have to admit, it is difficult. 'Ouiji board' to illegal employees to KKK.

you people remind me of the Klu Klux Klan.

Is that your rationale? It sounds very Clintonian; they were good at reverting to namecalling -- remember their scorched earth policy and character assassinations aimed at anyone who disagreed with them? One resorts to namecalling when one has no resonable rationale and tries to redirect the topic.

I wish you would have found your voice during the Clinton administration. I did my part and voted no to benefits to illegals and the Supreme Court threw the law out. I'm just pointing out the obvious about some of the rhetoric. You want to arrest US citizens, think about what you are asking for.
