As some may know, I write for the Wheeling newspapers.

I had a lovely bus trip to Wheeling to see the Christmas light display at Oglebay. The bus stopped at a mountaintop restaurant and the Wheeling Craft center. Unfortunately, most of Wheeling looked pretty dead. Such a shame, that your steel industry collapsed.

Steelers new bits:

NYTimes -- Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers' rookie quarterback, who was scrutinized for using gloves during Saturday's subpar performance against the Jets, said Wednesday that he was going to try to play the American Football Conference championship game barehanded.

The gloves, which Roethlisberger wore at Miami of Ohio and had on when he threw for a career-high 319 yards last month against the Giants, became an issue after he tossed two interceptions against the Jets. After the game, Roethlisberger said his hands were healthy, but his gloves were ill fitting.

He plans to abandon them against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Heinz Field because snow is in the forecast along with frigid temperatures. Roethlisberger started wearing gloves in high school to get a better feel for the ball, and he said he would continue to do so. But for this game, he is throwing them down.

another paper -- "I'm going to try to go this week without it because it supposedly might snow," Roethlisberger said Wednesday at the Steelers' practice facility, where he worked out sans gloves. "If it's wet, it makes it worse. We'll see if we can go without this week."

FoxSports -- Ben Roethlisberger is issuing this warning to the Patriots: The gloves are coming off for the AFC championship game.

Yoi, double yoi! No Garganzola!

I guess I don't understand - people are LEAVING Pittsburgh for the suburbs, but now the only newspaper that covers the burbs is moving to Pittsburgh?

I grew up outside of NYC, and, believe me, the open house parties we went to when the parents went away were something to remember!

Kinda makes you wonder why parents of teenage kids would ever go away for the weekend without anyone watching the kids/house, but apparently, someone's parents did it every weekend (just about).

Oh, to be young, stupid, and invincible again, eh?

I grew up smack dab in the middle of the city back in the dark ages, and we had some damn wild house party's even then. Sometimes, even the cops would show up, steal our beer and tell us to disappear. ;~((
