Few experts expect Gov. Bush to win a federal appeal to keep a brain-damaged woman alive.
The long legal saga pitting the parents of a severely brain-damaged woman against her husband may be winding down -- if, as widely expected, the U.S. Supreme Court refuses this week to consider an appeal filed by Gov. Jeb Bush.
It is risky to predict what the high court will decide Friday, when the justices are scheduled to accept or reject the governor's appeal in the case involving Terri Schiavo. No one knows what they will do, only that they could release some decision the following Monday.

I still can not belive that it has gotten to this.
As much as I would love to hear good news from the US Sup. Court, I have a feeling they will do nothing.
It would be shocking if the Supreme Court agrees to hear this case.
Bump and Thanks for the ping.
I don't know why all these news reporters want to see Terri murdered. Well, yes, I do. But it's pretty depressing.
very sad state of affairs.
The Nine Most powerful Magistrates in History are gonna unleash the jackbooted Federal Marshalls of the Worlds Most powerful Executive on a helpless disabled woman to commit a Judicial Homicide so her husband can profit from her death. (Strains of America the Beautiful playing in the background.)
So will I
We don't seem to mind a bit that 4,000 little tiny people are nonchalantly scraped out of the womb everyday. Why should we care about a disabled woman who only consumes resources? After all we're just animals, with limited resources, right?
I doubt if the Supremes will hear case---like other posters, I just don't see how this has gotten this far!!!
I have to hand it to Jeb Bush for sticking with this, though. He could have stopped after his initial involvement.
Federal Marshalls aren't going to have a thing to do with it because the US Supreme Court is almost certainly going to conclude that this is a state matter and not a federal one.
Legally, aren't the courts doing exactly what they claim the governor is doing- cutting out the other branches? Are you really telling me that the legislative and executive branches have no say in these matters- that it is only the domain of the judicial branch?
So it's gonna be Jack Booted Florida State Troopers gonna get this killin' done? Wow, I feel a lot better now. Thanks Gone. Even Pilate pardoned Barrabas!
the precedent this is going to set for other disabled people is simply terrifying. THis country is riding a rocket sled down the slippery slope :(
Why so?
Pray please. This is a cusp for our country. One man intent on STARVING TO DEATH his lawful wife, supported by the legal system of our country. Weep while you pray, our Lady is moved by our tears and she can intercede.
Amen on the rocket sled. If she is "legally murdered," heaven help us all.
Certainly President Bush can issue an executive order here, much the same that was upheld by the courts when Clinton sent Elian Gonzalez back to slavery in Cuba. Well, I can dream can't I?
Remember, this case is about "Terri's Law", not about Terry directly. That distinction may be hard for some people to grasp, but it hinges on that. The US Supreme Court is simply not going to tell the Florida Supreme Court that a law it ruled unconstitutional under the Florida constitution is okay after all.
Or, if it does, I will be amazed. I can't recall a previous case where they've ever done such a thing absent some significant federal issue being raised in the appeal. Governor Bush's attorney's have tried to assert that some federal issues are involved in order to get US Supreme Court jurisdiction and interest, but they're really weak longshots.
