"a promise to become "fair and balanced.""
Clean house or close shop. Your choice.
Uh-huh. I WON'T hold my breath waiting for this to happen. The Clinton Broadcasting Service (SeeBS) has carved out a niche for itself hugging the basement in the ratings game and they have not seen a need to change for many years, why start now?
Another nail in the CBS news head in the sand coffin.
='s an admission of guilt.
Basically an admission that they've not been up until now. But we'll see if they really change.
WEll they can start by having O'Neil--Patterson--Alrich on 60 minutes and give them time to review their books
A little late, but it would be a good place to start.
I don't want fair and "balanced" from ANY news organization.
I want fair and truthful...fair and correct. Just the facts, please.
I've been hammering Fox (with the help of some Freepers) about the "Fair & Balanced" mantra. I notice they don' t mention that so much since the election.
Yeah, right. (coughbullshitcough) Wait a minute, I thought they already were, as opposed to Fox, following RNC marching orders?
you got that right!
I could be wrong, but I think the "Balanced" argument steamed from the fact that several main stream news organizations would cover more liberal based stories then they would cover conservative based stories. This created an enequility in the amount of coverage each received.
It's conceivable that a liberal based or a conservative based story could be covered in a fair, truthful and correct correct way -with all the facts [but unlikely, given the MSM's history on how they cover news stories]
Okay, CBS, your promise is fine with us. You just have a little catching up to do in the BALANCE department.
For starters, here's a little list of stories you need to get to work on.
1. Chappaquiddick - Let's check out the angle that Edward M. Kennedy just might have just have waded away from the Dike Bridge and let Mary Jo Kopechne drown after fighting for her life for a freezing and horrifying two hours. Check out the booze angle, and let's ask Sen Kennedy the same unrelenting kind of back breaker questions that we used to reserve only for Republicans.
2. Do a series of feature stories on the allegations of a brutal rape Juanita Broderick by Attorney General Wm J. Clinton. Let's get some female talent on this story, Leslie Stahl might be good, and what-the-heck, let loose on that "myopic zeal" that's been building. Let's get Bill Clinton on 60 Minutes, then blindside him with rape allegations. Lots of hot lights and closeup shots. You know the drill.
3. How about some more recent balance with some interviews with the Swift Boat Vets? Let's get dozens of them to tell their story. We want to emphasize the questions about John F. Kerry's lapse in his discharge record around 1972, and whether-or-not he was given an undesirable discharge. In fact, let's have CBS crews hound the former candidate for his recalcitrant reticence about the details of his war and post-war record until he signs that form 180. What a testament to CBS balance that form will be. It'll be worth at least one of the forged Guard memos.
You see, CBS, you can't just promise to be "fair and balanced" in the future. Your liberal excesses of the past are so massive that they must be CORRECTED of you are to achieve true BALANCE, n'est ce pas?
You obviously gave this a good bit of thought. You are my kind of FReeper.
Check post # 3o by rightinthemiddle. I think you and he are on the same track. I was going to say frequency but caught myself.
