~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~

The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word.

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately.

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word.

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

OSIS Ocean Surveillance Information System

Where AF Basic trainees go if they fail to complete training in the allotted time due to physical or mental limitations.

OSV Ocean station vessel

An oceangoing vessel assigned to patrol an ocean station. These ships are specially equipped to take comprehensive meteorological observations of conditions both at the surface and aloft. The U.S. vessels are provided by the U.S. Coast Guard, and the meteorological personnel and equipment are provided by the National Weather Service.

Isn't that a strange little clip. At first I did not think it was funny at all. I was worried that the li'll penguin was hurtin... then the more I watched it the funnier it became to me. Now it just cracks me up..

I have it on good authority that no animals were hurt in the filming of that clip.

That's good no penguins were hurt, and it's just funny. I've read that is really how penguins behave...they knock each other around alot, but they see each other through tough times, and stick together. Thanks Diva!
