Internet availability + perceived anonimity = porn explosion

Actually, I think it was the other way around. I believe the growth of the interned is due primarily to the desire to get porn without having to be seen in public getting it.

Porn also gave us the inexpensive VCR and inexpensive DVD player.

Shalom.

Ironic that the exploitation explosion of women is the result of women no longer wishing to be satisfied with the standard family roles for women.

Unless things have changed dramatically from when I was a wicked young man there isn't much relationship between porn films and standard family roles for women.

Shalom.

" Let me guess: All packages will come in a plain, brown wrapping. "

And you better believe small to medium size town postal workers will now which packages are porn material and thus know who is receiving them...LOL Dirty secrets known only by the buyer and the post masters. Oy, no thanks, rolls eyes

Because men find it easier to deal with a video than having to be mature enough to do with a living, breathing woman.

Hmmm....if living, breathing women would engage in sexual activities such as are seen in porn (and with the same entusiasm), men would have fewer reasons to watch it.

OK, here's the deal. I'm into pretty naked ladies as much as anyone, maybe more. But pornography is like termites.

"Women in porn are caricatures of beauty. Overinflated breasts aren't aren't attractive in reality."

You may have a point there. When I see them all, I'll make a determination.

When you've seen one, you've usually seen two.

I agree that the internet explosion was certainly helped by porn but it was not the driving force that caused the internet to become so prevelant. On the other hand, the singular reason porn became so much more prevelant (almost overnight) was its availability and the perceived anonimity of the internet.

I think about it this way. If people did not want porn it would go away. There would be no money in it. Since it is still here people must want it. That being the case there was probably a constant percentage of people that would indulge in porn regardless of whether they had to do so "in public". By in public I mean and XXX theaters, going to strip bars or adult shops.

The change in porn from something that only the perverts did to something that is mainstream happened when Joe Somebody started being able to get it without anyone knowing about it. The shame of being seen as a porn purveyor had a stigma. People were afraid their friends or neighbors or relatives would catch them coming out of the XXX theater or adult shop. IMO, this is what stopped most people from purchasing or watching porn. Not a lack of available porn but a fear of being caught.

Now people can get it both for free and somewhat anonymously on the internet. I think thats why you see what you see with the porn explosion. The stigma has been removed by anonimity.

I mostly agree with you, but how would it become mainstream due to people being able to keep their interest a secret?

I think it has more to do with the kiddie-porn on TV myself.

Shalom.

What, are you afraid you're missing something?

:-D

I actually meant soft-porn, porn for children, not porn of children. Between shows that depict everything but nudity in all the sexual hijinx and the cable channels that depict the nudity porn became something you could talk about at work. Now it's just a matter of degree.

Sorry for the confusing mis-type.

Shalom.

I understand. You have a point; defining devinacy downward is a well established phenomenon. (Remember when Elvis was considered shocking?)

The internet made it commonplace. Everyone got used to it and it became mainstream. Additionally, it was the only real legal taboo that had not been demolished by the 1960's. The teenagers of the day (Gen-y? Gen-Z?) had to have SOMETHING to piss off their parents with. I mean really, as a 1990's - 2000's teen you would have to work to piss off your dope-smoking anti-establishment, fight-the-powers parents. I suppose it was either porn or conservatism. Porn is more fun.

"Dirty secrets known only by the buyer and the post masters."

That's true. Because all packages are tracked from the source to you.
