COME AND JET IT! (Chargers favered by 6 1/2)
NY Post ^

January 8, 2005 -- SAN DIEGO - During a quiet moment in an otherwise frenetic week for the Jets, who were in speed-preparation mode for today's wild-card playoff game against the Chargers at Qualacomm Stadium, Herman Edwards sat in an office at Weeb Ewbank Hall watching a segment on the NFL Network. There was Chargers quarterback Drew Brees, his face flush with the success of his team's 12-4 season, talking about how he and the Chargers "owe" the Jets one because the Jets beat them here, 34-28, in the second week of the season.

"That's good," Edwards said. "They owe us. That's fine. That's OK."

That's exactly the way Edwards wants Brees and the Chargers to feel.

Here's the way the Herman Edwards Jets, underdogs as usual in a big spot, hope the Chargers are feeling today as they take the field: good about themselves, basking in the glory of their AFC West title, their home playoff game, their first appearance in the postseason since 1995, and the adulation of the city that only months ago wanted to run their head coach out of town.

Here's what the Jets want to do as soon as the game begins: Smack those smiles of satisfaction from the Chargers' faces with a few big plays offensively and defensively as they take a first-quarter lead and allow doubt to start seeping into San Diego's collective psyche.

Finally, here's what the Jets want to accomplish today: Win and move on to New England or Pittsburgh, where they have scores to settle.

Sure it all sounds easy in print.

Unless Curtis Martin gets at least 100yds (and more like 120) the Jets don't have a prayer.

Chad is not the same since his injury.

No one, and I mean no one, is picking the Jets today. I think it'll be closer than what many believe, but that the Chargers will still prevail.

Seahawks over the Rams in a squeaker as well.

Did anyone pick the Dolphins over the Patriots?

Do you really think the Fins would've beaten the Pats if it were a playoff game? Not a chance in hell.

Jets have played well in opening round games of the playoffs when they are the underdog. It seems they rarely play to the expectation when they are favored.Called playing to the level of their opponent.
Going to be tough, several holes in passing game.Defense needs to remember how to stop the big play.

I don't know what kind of shape the field is in but the weather has been and will continue to be awful!
They're predicting another two inches of rain today, tomorrow and Monday! And 26mph winds from the south.
Great weather for ducks! LOL
As Bette Davis used to say "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!"

The Bolts have managed to become the 3rd best run defense in the league, so 'Martin! Martin! Martin!' will be facing a much tougher test, then in week 2.

And with the windy weather and Chad's flutterballs, if the Jets can't run, the Jets can't win.

No way, my eastern friend ... the Jets are 'going down'!!!!

Enjoying my new digs in San Diego, freshly moved here from Los Angeles who the NFL ignores.

I've got $$ on the Jets beating the spread.

I haven't laid my wager down yet, but I'm liking the Chargers to cover the spread.
