NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)-Forget about Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's. What are you doing for the Eight of January-the 190th anniversary of Andrew Jackson's defeat of the British at the Battle of New Orleans?

If this were 1835 instead of 2005, you'd surely have plans because the day was a national holiday filled with parades, feasts, dances and speeches.

And to think, Andy did it all without asking the UN for permission, too!

In 1814 we took a little trip Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Missassipp We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a coming There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they began to running Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we seen the British come And there must have been a hundred of them beating on the drums They stepped so high and they made their bugles sing We stood behind our cotton bales and didn't say a thing

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise If we didn't fire a musket 'til we looked 'em in the eyes We held our fire 'til we seen their faces well We opened up our squirrel guns and really gave em...

Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where the rabbits couldn't go They ran so fast the hounds couldn't catch 'em On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down Then we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind And when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind

We fired our guns and the British kept a coming

There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago

We fired once more and they began to running

Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico!

"Duplicate post. "

Whenever it's a Duplicate post do you have to duplicate your post that points out the duplicate post? And now, since I'm inquiring about your duplicate posts about the duplicate post, do I have to post 4 times?

Did you know Johnny Horton recorded a version for release in Britain that reversed the roles and had the rebels fleeing from the British?

You can hear a short clip here:

It's cut number 15.

It was actually a series of battles taking place in December, 1814 to January, 1815. The final battle occurred on January 8, some two weeks after the peace treaty was signed in Paris. No rapid communications existed back then though so word hadn't reached people in America.
