The nice thing about catastrophe is, it can be studied, despite the unique characteristics of any given event of this kind. I don't go for any claims of supervolcanoes, which is one area I probably differ with Blam.

I don't know about that. There's plenty of evidence that show debris fields spread out 5-10 feet deep 1000 miles from the yellowstone supervolcanic eruptions of .6, 1.4 & 2.1 million years ago. Its pretty hard to miss.
