I'll admit she has the IQ of a pine cone, but the old guy did leave her that money in his will. I think it's hers by right. Considering how his family has acted, I can see why he might have wanted to spit in their faces.

You are correct there. That old man knew he was marying her and he knew he would one day be dead, so actually the money should be hers.
Her husband wanted her to have the money. She probably gave him more happiness(get your minds out of the gutter ;) in the 14 months they were married than his kids ever did.
She's a survivor, and will probably get past this.
