Killer waves, then a day on the beach

It seems almost impossible.

Just days after the tidal wave disaster, one of the devestated beaches was returning to normal yesterday.

On Sunday, Patong Beach was hit by a wall of water that swept into Phuket, claiming at least 120 lives.

Parasols, chairs, and other beach paraphernalia were swept to the top of the tree-lined beach, dragging helpless holidaymakers with them. It was at this beach that six-month-old Melina Heppel, of Perth, disappeared from her father's arms when the huge wave struck.

For some tourists yesterday, however, the tragedy was bedoming a memory, albiet a vivid one, as they made the most of the weather and topped up their tans.

Yikes... swimming among the corpses?

I'm sorry, but I'd be on the next plane back to Western civilization -- before the cholera starts...

Life does go on but this gives me the shivers. Don't they have something else to do for awhile?

Talk about not having any respect for the dead, or the struggling survivors.

This is why I don't feel sorry for a lot of these people. They practically ask for it.

The animals were smarter then the people who lay on the beaches all day, at least the animals had common sense to get away.

For some reason, all these whiners begging with outstretched hands for our money and these idiots coming back to the beach the very next day or two, it just really hasn't created any sympathy in me for the people of this disaster, not like Beslan or the twin towers.

I know I sound pretty cold hearted, and I understand it's a major disaster, but somehow people on the beach just doesn't strike sympathy in me.

Life must be carefree for these people in denial. If ignorance is bliss, they must be orgasmic.

This is going to be studied by shrinks for years to come.

I remember in Lebanon in '83 seeing two women sunbathing in one part, and there were shells going off in the distance. Still don't get it.

Actually, in Patong and Karon, 85% of the hotels are open without damage, and I've already received emails from some of the scuba tour operators that they will be operating in about a week.

I will go back to Phuket, possibly by April. Thailand is a special place, I will continue to support them.

That's what I'm thinking.

Of course, since these tourists are not weathy or well-to-do Conservative Americans, only weathy europeans, etc, the MSM isn't condemning them for continuing their vacations and not helping the surviving victims.

Would it surprise you to know that Phuket is one of the centers of the Asian sex tourism market with Patong beach known as the place for homosexual activity?
