Nice to see the dancing elephant.

I seem to be transfixed by this story and being home on semester break, have a lot of time to follow it on the web and TV.

There's not much to smile about now - the Swedish boy finding his father, the little baby & its mother that was on another thread, and maybe the mental picture of an elephant carrying a bunch of children to safety.

Any truth to the story that a donkey was seen kicking kids back into the water?

No, the donkey was criticizing the elephant for moving too slowly.

"Any truth to the story that a donkey was seen kicking kids back into the water?"

I know what you mean. This whole catastrophe is very hard to get my brain wrapped around. As it keeps getting worse, I keep having more trouble believing that it's real.

Overload, I think. And maybe the dancing elephant helps.

Well, I say the elephant's keeper did the saving. No offense to elephants everywhere.

Very smart creatures and very long memories...especially for dance steps.

just don't get them pissed off.

I'm just glad to know that not all of these packiderms are just standing around, drinking beer, ransacking villages and looking for trouble to get into. There's hope yet.

So 1 elephant saves many children. How many jackasses saved children?

Well that's great and I am glad for the children, but the article title is a bit misleading. this line from the article:

the elephant's keeper hoisted kids up onto the animal's back

indicates that the elephant was no more heroic than a truck. The handler made the decisions. The elephant was just big and bulky enough to safely do what it was forced to do.
