Times: Hillary's Toughest Opponent 'Herself'
Newsmax.com ^ | 12/25/04 | unknown

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is already the frontrunner for her party's presidential nomination in 2008.

But to win the general election, she'll have to overcome opposition from a significant number of voters who absolutely can't stand her.

Survey after survey shows that approximately one-third of New Yorkers has a negative opinion of Clinton, the New York Times said Saturday.

"The voters who disapprove of Clinton are numerous and unshakable, and they have been around so long that they have a name in political circles. Hillary haters."

The former first lady's negative image is largely driven by the perception that she traded on her husband's marital misconduct to gain power and influence in government.

While Mrs. Clinton has largely overcome that image with her constituents, outside of New York the percentage of Hillary haters remains problematically high.

In a recent Marist College Institute for Public Opinion survey, roughly 4 of 10 Americans said they disapprove of her.

"There's work for her to do nationally," Marist poll director Lee Miringoff told the Times. "Beyond her appeal to the Democratic base, there is a need for her to build bridges to reach out to moderate Republicans and independent voters if she hopes to succeed."

Mrs. Clinton, however, remains undeterred.

Asked recently whether her divisive image has Republicans hoping that she becomes the Democrats' next presidential nominee, the former first lady told NBC's "Today Show," "We have a president who is quite polarizing - and very successful, I might add."

She not only traded on his deplorable misconduct, she harassed, tormented, and tarred the women who he was fooling with.

She belongs NOWHERE near the presidency, or government in general. And, it would be nice if the WOMEN of America wake up to who this "woman" really is. I'm sure the old media will be helpful in shining light on the real 'Lady in Pink' over the next four years. (sarcasm off)

She's got four years ahead of her to make herself a defense and intel hawk, sponser legislation banning late-term abortion, stand up for the rights of christians, pass laws to kick out illegal immigrants, impose tort reform, privatize social security, call for school choice, and kick gays in the crotch.

If co-starring in a revival of "Oh Calcutta!" was neccessary for her to be a beliveable candidate for president, she'd do it. Look for a major image remake, indeed, she's the only one with the juice to turn the Dems around.

"Good news: Hillary Clinton is coming to New York to be our senator. They're saying now that she bought a house in Westchester. . . . It must have been very traumatic emotionally, because buying a house -- this is probably the first legal real estate deal she's been involved with." --

The Clintons have buggered their base before ("Don't ask, Don't tell," Welfare Reform, NAFTA, etc.) and gotten away with it. Look for Hillary to do an encore. After all, who else will the Leftoids have to vote for in '08? Ralphie boy again? Nobody is more terrified of the Clintons and their deadly smear machine than their fellow democrats. Unless a relative unknown whom they don't have a thick file on steps up to the plate between now and then.

LOL. You're so right, she might even take to baking cookies. She's trouble if the people don't get to know her true nature. I've read about a dozen books on her, and I know what makes her tick.......... and it's not the well-being of this country's citizens!

She has been "networking" since back in the late 60's. She will have a network of people behind her that is incredibly huge.......... and BEHIND her is quite a large area.

Even Dowd gets it right once in a while.........

"Everyone is fed up with the creepy dynamics of this warped marriage. We have lost all hope of getting any shred of authenticity from either Bill or Hillary -- unless it's the authenticity of the deluded. They have chosen tactics over truth with such consistency that it's impossible to accept anything they say." -- New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd.

One more for fun: "Hillary loves Bill. And Bill loves Bill. It gives them something in common." -- Dick Morris

It amazes me how many "woman" like her just becaue of her gender and ignore her shady politics.

The great majority of them don't even know of her "shady" politics, thanks to the liberal/Dem/socialist/one world/old media. Example (these BOOS were removed from all the tapes and DVD's) --

"Senator Hillary Clinton's inner circle is furious at MIRAMAX king Harvey Weinstein after the former first lady suffered through a public relations nightmare during Saturday's AMERICA: A TRIBUTE TO HEROES concert in New York City.

Hillary Clinton was jeered and booed by thousands gathered at Madison Square Garden as she took to the stage -- unannounced -- to introduce a movie clip. VH1 cameras captured firemen and police heroes wildly booing Clinton, who attempted to raise her voice above the shouting crowd.

"Get off the stage! We don't want you here!" yelled one New York City police officer just feet from the senator. Anti-Clinton slurs spread and intensified throughout the Garden, with many standing near the stage lobbing profanities.

Event-planner and close Clinton friend Harvey Weinstein was visibly shaken as he heard the crowd erupt with boos and jeers, according to an eyewitness. The junior senator from New York ending up giving the shortest presentation of the evening, clocking in at under 20 seconds.

"How could we not know this would be the wrong forum for Hillary?!" shouted one confidante. "These are cops and firemen who listen to right-wing talkradio. They still think she killed Vince Foster, for Christ sake!"

*****

There are four years of work to do.

Utter pipe dream; we conservatives can only pray the demonrats will be this stupid to nominate her.

That said .... pray hard. I'd LOVE to see Hillary get nominated. Talk about all the wire haired harpies appearing on TV, shrilly bleating their support for her. Just think of all the young and impressionable young women who will look up to their model of ..... womanhood. Oh please pray hard!!!!

From a while back.......... ;-)

A New York stockbroker got stuck in some bad traffic on the way home the other day. He asked a cop on the beat, what was the holdup. Cop says, "it's Hillary in her motorcade. She stopped and is threatening to douse herself in gasoline and set herself on fire. She's depressed because Bill's running around on her more than ever, Bush upstaged her in Iraq, she's flipped out about Gore and Dean, and the Saddam capture put her over the edge. So we're taking up a collection for her."

The stockbroker asks the cop, "How much have you got so far? The cop replies, "About four and a half gallons, but a lot of folks are still siphoning."

She has been "networking" since back in the late 60's. She will have a network of people behind her that is incredibly huge.......... and BEHIND her is quite a large area.

I especially like R. Emmett Tyrell's anecdote about her keeping a rolodex full of political contacts even in high school...

He used the phrase "coat and tie radicals" and "grade grubbers" to describe the Clintons and their ilk. Even in their swingin' sixties youth they were careful never to join the sit-ins and riots so as to "maintain their viability within the system." There is only one photo of Bill from his Oxford interlude briefly sporting the hippy dippy look ('fro, beard, turtleneck, army jacket) for a year two abroad. Otherwise Hillary's blue jeans and granny glasses at Yale were as wild as either of them ever got.

Tyrell's Madame Hillary painted a very formidable picture of the War Machine she has constructed, the moolah she has already collected, and the chits she is piling up in the Senate. I very much doubt anyone knowledgeable can call her the "junior senator from New York" with a straight face.

The $64,000 question we have to be asking ourselves is could it be possible for her or anyone to actually run for president in this day and age without ever having to face an unscripted interview, non-neutered press conference or non-handpicked audience? No one thought she could win an NY senate seat that way, but the MSM went out of their way to lay their cloaks in the mud for her a la Sir Walter Raleigh and Queen Bess.
