$700 in video games.

There's one problem.

Sorry, I just think everyone gets too much.

How much is too much? $700 really doesn't go that far these days.

There's one problem.

Actually, that's two problems:

1) $700

2) Video games

But that's just my opinion... to each, his own. I do agree that a parent should never make a promise or a threat that he can't or isn't willing to follow through on. Hope the kids learned a lesson.

Everyone does get too much these days. As recently as the turn of the century, there would be one or two simple gifts under (but usually small enough to be on) the tree.

But since then, each generation of parents have been trying to outdo the other. It's now escalated to the point where if a child gets less than 10 gifts, he/she feels shortchanged. And at least two or three of them must be "major" gifts, such as DVD players, Nintendo games, laptops, etc.

It's out of hand. I filled four trash barrels in my garage yesterday of wrapping paper, boxes, packaging, etc. And that was after breaking everything down!
