Al-Qaida prepares for major attack over Christmas: has scouted civilian targets in Europe

Several agencies have intercepted electronic communications pointing to al-Qaida's plans to launch a major attack over the next two weeks, Western intelligence sources said, according to Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service.

The sources said al-Qaida was planning to use Islamic subcontractors to carry out major attacks against civilian targets in Europe.

Al-Qaida has been gathering assets in several European Union countries and Russia over the past two months, the sources said. At this point the intelligence agencies have determined that al-Qaida has been scouting potential targets and has already called supporters to initiate strikes.

Some targets in Western Europe include NATO headquarters in Brussels, a railroad hub packed with holiday travelers and Istanbul, Turkey. The sources said al-Qaida cells in Europe are flushed with operatives that fought the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq.

Other leading al-Qaida targets include Moscow or St. Petersburg. Federal Security Service Director Nikolai Patrushev said Russia's domestic intelligence agency has received reports of a planned major terrorist attack in St. Petersburg.

Patrushev said unidentified people were seen taking video footage of children's hospitals and clinics. He said terrorists would be most likely to strike around the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

European countries have been working overtime to uncover al-Qaida network cells. Patrushev reported that an al-Qaida cell was discovered in the North Caucasus and a senior operative was being interrogated.

I just have this to say re "children's hospitals".... If I were in charge of determining strategy for what to do in the event that a group of muslim scum took over a children's hospital, I wouldn't delay and negotiate for a second.

Yes mr. muslim man, you have demonstrated that you are the most hurtful and hateful thing on the Earth! So what now?

Let us pray God strikes these evildoers dead (while strapping on their Acme homicidal bomb vests), and spares the innocents. They are the scum of the earth and worse.

The Russians are even now putting pink panties on that senior operative's head. He'll reveal everything without delay.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. Europe is low hanging fruit. It can't hit back like we can and it's infested with Islamists. Also, we're a lot harder to get at than we were before 9/11. If Al Qaida wants to demonstrate it can still mount a major attack they could do it in Europe a lot easier than here.

One other thing to add....if it happens, Europe (and our political left) may well blame us for 'making the world less safe from terrorism' by going into Iraq.

It seems to me anytime a major calendar event occurs, i.e., July 4, September 11, November 2, Thanksgiving, Xmas, etc. the hand wringing begins concerning a possible terrorist attack. The doom & gloom advocates are back at work ... it's so predictable.
