An uncharacteristically subdued Donald Rumsfeld tried yesterday to quell complaints he's insensitive to the sacrifice of G.I.s fighting and dying in Iraq.
"I am truly saddened by the thought that anyone could have the impression that I or others here are doing anything other than working urgently to see that the lives of the fighting men and women are protected and are cared for in every way humanly possible," the defense secretary said at the Pentagon.
"When I meet with the wounded, with their families, or with the families of those who have been lost, their grief is something I feel to my core," Rumsfeld added. "The strength of our military and of their families is amazing. ... It never fails to give me strength, to give me encouragement and to give me inspiration for the tasks ahead."
The normally combative and often prickly Rumsfeld seemed unusually emotional while defending himself.
In recent weeks, he has been hammered by critics, including prominent Republicans, for seeming to kiss off a soldier's question about the shortage of armor for vehicles in Iraq and for allowing the use of a mechanical autopen on condolence notes.
Asked if the brickbats have affected his ability to do his job, Rumsfeld replied, "You get up in the morning and you think about what our troops are doing, and I must say, if they can do what they're doing, I can do what I'm doing."
2008 primary season,just like McCain.
Might I suggest you also call the Pentagon and express your support?
I did that and they were most grateful for the call.
They seem to love him there, if the reaction of the person who took my call is any indication.
It is clearly McCain's goal to replace Rummy with his guy (himself-needless to say). What the press hopes to acheive who knows - but perhaps they see it to their benefit to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Let McLame run the war into the ground and find some Kissingeresque like diplomate to conclude an "honorable" peace and pull out. Then the left and our own weak sisters can claim that the whole thing was unwinnible after all and that it was all Rummy's fault. Then they can elect Ketchupmann and the world will once again be safe for leftist stooges.
Was it all those thorn of the woses thwon at his wittle feet?
Resign, you clown, resign.
Oh, I'm sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear enough: I think Donald Rumsfeld should resign.
He's incompetent, stupid, self-righteous and basically personifies idiocy... If you think he's got a record to stand on, Tinkerbell, state it and step on up.
It is my opinioh that these characteristics disqualify him from maintaining his current position.
Do you wanna step, little boy?
I'll be gone for about two hours at dinner, at which point I'll return to respond to whatever you have to say.
Do your worst, child, I'll be happy to discipline your ignorance.
It seems a logical explanation, AJ....but yet, W is not the type to reward disloyalty. And McCain has been nothing, if not disloyal.
One of the uglier trolls I see. Have fun at the bath house...
I've never seen such a troll infestation on FR. Must have been nailing Dan Rather that got their attention.
Now Rummyphobia has them foaming at the gills.

Do I detect a certain degree of personal bias here?
I read many of your posts..It seems insulting diatribes against posters and others are your greatest contributions to this forum..
Do you have these saved to your computer to bring out for special occasions or do they just dwell naturally in the basement of your brain?
As AFE pointed out, with many of the older embedden trolls, Rummy Phobia has advanced into full blown Rummy Psychosis.
RummyHydroPhobia.
Rummyphobia, once contracted, is a ground-zero illness - if not treated with extreme prejudice...
Merry Christmas BTW BTTT
Merry Christmas to you!
May your Christmas be filled with joy!
I don't pray much, but I pray for Rumsfeld. He deserves it greatly. God bless him & his family (and all of our soldiers).
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you!
Grampa is off to bed!
Amen..Prayers for Rummy and our troops.
