UPDATE:
Several loud blasts were heard in the Indonesian capital Jakarta and two other towns nearby early on Sunday, although one radio report said it could have been a meteor shower.
Local Metro TV reported residents heard the blasts around 7.30 a.m. (1930 EST) in Jakarta, the satellite city of Tangerang, and also Serang in West Java province. El Shinta radio said it could have been a meteor shower.
Police were not immediately available to comment. A presidential spokesman also said he had no information on the blasts.
Western governments have warned of possible terror attacks in Indonesia over the Christmas and New Year period that could target an international hotel, possibly one of the three Hilton hotels in the world's most populous Muslim nation.
Islamic militants linked to the al Qaeda network have launched several big bomb attacks in recent years in Indonesia.

- CARL PHILLIPS
- Ladies and gentlemen, I shall read you a wire addressed to Professor Pierson from Dr. Gray of the National History Museum, New York.
- Quote, "9:15 P. M. eastern standard time. Seismograph registered shock of almost earthquake intensity occurring within a radius of twenty miles of Jakarta. Please investigate. Signed, Lloyd Gray, Chief of Astronomical Division," unquote.
- Professor Pierson, could this occurrence possibly have something to do with the disturbances observed on the planet Mars?
- PROF. PIERSON
- Hardly, Mr. Phillips. This is probably a meteorite of unusual size and its arrival at this particular time is merely a coincidence. However, we shall conduct a search, as soon as daylight permits.

- ANNOUNCER TWO
- Ladies and gentlemen, here is the latest bulletin from the Intercontinental Radio News. Toronto, Canada: Professor Morse of McMillan University reports observing a total of three explosions on the planet Mars, between the hours of 7:45 P. M. and 9:20 P. M., eastern standard time. This confirms earlier reports received from American observatories.
- Now, nearer home, comes a special bulletin from Jakarta, Indonesia. It is reported that at 8:50 P. M. a huge, flaming object, believed to be a meteorite, fell on a farm in the neighborhood of Tangerang, Indonesia, twenty-two miles from Jakarta.
- The flash in the sky was visible within a radius of several hundred miles and the noise of the impact was heard as far north as Serang in West Java province.
- We have dispatched a special mobile unit to the scene, and will have our commentator, Carl Phillips, give you a word picture of the scene as soon as he can reach there from Princeton.
- In the meantime, we take you to the Hotel Martinet in Brooklyn, where Bobby Millette and his orchestra are offering a program of dance music.

Jakarta is like Hong Kong - crowded, dirty and frantic.
I feel sorry for any ex-pats still living there.
It's a powder keg.
I can see in my mind the Hilton that will be attacked. It's opulent, with ice sculptures every morning on the breakfast buffet and every kind of tropical fruit imaginable.
These jihadi idiots can't stand anything nice. Their preferred lifestyle is living in crap.
