In custody, Aziz ready to name names-(Oil For Greedy boys and girls...)
MSNBC ^ | Dec. 17, 2004 | Lisa Myers

Former Iraqi deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz was the sophisticated, intelligent face of a thuggish regime. He was known for his elegant English suits and a fondness for Cuban cigars.

But photos, obtained exclusively by NBC News, for the first time show Aziz as he lives now, in custody. It's a strikingly different image — Aziz appears frail in orange prison garb and plastic handcuffs.

I hope we get lots of news about this trial. There are names yet to be named that will take the Democrats down a peg or two.

Former Secretary of State James Baker says Aziz has an incentive to be helpful to the U.S.

"He may very well be inclined to cooperate with us thinking that he could receive some sort of leniency or get a better deal," says Baker.

Once Saddam's tireless defender, Aziz is now singing a very different tune, to please his new keeper.

If Aziz can prove his accusations - give him anything he wants......

....If Aziz can prove his accusations.....

The prosecutors will do the proving. Tariq will provide testimony to be corroborated by others.

He's a Christian..so despite is high status in Saddam's regime..he probably had a healthy odes of paranoia. It wouldn't surprise me if he has documents..photocopies of a lot of stuff stashed somewheres in the world..people like this tend to plan waaay ahead..

I suspect the "very frail looking" Aziz will die mysteriously before we ever find out who was bribed in the U.S.

Hopefully Aziz is smart enough to turn down any offers from French lawyers...

I was thinking the same thing. Keep the Rose Law Firm out of the area.

What is with the press when describing these guys with GQ looks? They did the same thing to Saddam the first time he appeared in court. (talking about his suit jacket without a tie).

I think there is is some subconscious attraction to these guys on the part of the press.

Amen!

The difference between us and the French? We'll follow the facts where they lead us -- us conservatives will insist on it. We'll arrest, try, and imprison those involved . . . if they're not hiding in Switzerland . . . where the next Democrapic President will pardon them when they donate a gazillion dollars to their library fund.

But, hey, at least we make the effort.

You and I both do, but I'm sure the democrats don't. They will pull out all the stops to keep him from telling all. In the process he will get that better deal baker says he is hoping for, and we will not get the names we want, or should have.

This Iraqi Christian is a Judas who many times over could have defected with his family. Like his predecessor, he sold himself for pieces of sililver, and he would do the world a favor by hanging himself.

I had the exact same thoughts when I saw the headline. Here's hoping he's as cunning and resourceful as some may think. I'm reminded of that line by Gene Hackman in "Enemy of the State":

Hackman (to Will Smith): "You're either the dumbest man I've ever met, or the smartest one!"
NOTE: Quote cleaned up for a family-oriented discussion :-)
