A one-time top aide to the architect of the Republican Revolution is praising New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for her tough stance on immigration reform, saying that if the GOP fails to take action on the issue it could make Clinton president of the United States.
"I never thought I would write the following words, but: God bless Hillary Clinton," said Tony Blankley, one-time chief of staff to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
"Though her motives are cynical, their effects may well be vital both to our national security and to our sovereign responsibility to control our borders," Blankely contended in a column in Wednesday's Washington Times.
"Just listen to [Hillary's] Pat Buchananesque defiance, he wrote, before citing quotes first reported by NewsMax.com last month.
"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," Clinton said in a Feb. 2003 radio interview. "Clearly we have to make some tough decisions as a country, and one of them ought to be coming up with a much better entry-and-exit system . . . People have to stop employing illegal immigrants."
Clinton's comments gained new currency last month, when she revisited the issue during the opening of her husband's presidential library and told the Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, "I don't think that we have protected our borders . . . We can do more and we can do better."
Notes Blankley:
"Republican presidents and congressional leaders have for years effortlessly and painlessly given short shrift to conservative Republican congressmen calling to secure our borders and end massive illegal immigration. But they ignore Hillary at their mortal peril."
If the Republican-controlled Congress fails to pass immigration and border legislation in 2005, he warned, it would "set up Hillary to patch together an unlikely, but formidable, electoral coalition of disenchanted border-security Republicans and main street Democrats for the 2008 campaign."
A victim od the Deceiver..
Anyone who is being suckered by Her Heineous' insincere veering to the right on this issue in order to "appeal to red states" is an ass.
I'm for tougher border policy, but GW would have to pass out free vouchers to all Arabs before I would back Hitlery.
He's right. I hope the pubbies heed his word and stand up to La Raza and the other illegal alien lobbies.
Run like a Conservative..Govern like a Communist!
That ought to get W and Rove off their special interest asses on this issue.
What's funny is that a hard line against immigration would seem to be a typically Dim related issue. It hurts American labor which they claim to represent. Why don't more of them come out against it? Or more Republicans for that matter. It's the worst sort of pandering to a group (pro illegal immigration American citizens)that's much smaller then most people think. IMHO.
Also from Mews Max today :"Only 39 percent of voters would choose her for president in 2008, while 46 percent would back any Republican who runs against her, according to a Rasmussen survey conducted December 35". If the Hildabeast is not the nominee & another dem takes this position & the pubbies do nothing about it I believe that the dems win the election.
Still waiting for a Pubbie to leap into the breach here...
Tancredo troed, but W bitch-slapped him. Until Bush takes the initiative, the GOPers are afraid to touch it.
Once again this falls into the Bizzaro-world of American politics.
The issue of illegal immigration has been given short shrift not only by this administration, but by previous Republican presidents who have been content to fiddle while Rome burns. Thus giving an "in" to a crass political operative whose own husband, as POTUS, gave it as much attention as Bush41 and the venerable Ronald Reagan, in addition to Jimmah Carter and Gerald Ford, as well as Richard Nixon, LBJ and JFK. The only sane policy in 60 years has been the "bracero" program of DD Eisenhower.
Ten millions illegal Mexicans, 20% of the Mexican population, are said to be in the United States, sucking up social services, clogging hospital emergency rooms, taxing schools and teachers already hampered with un-necessary and unfunded mandates from self serving and education illiterate politicians. Plus what about the Mexican gang problems in cities across America?
Republicans across the board are unwilling to deal with this undeclared invasion of America, and this issue is being handed to Hillary Clinton on a silver platter.
Wake up America, and contact your Senators and Congressmen, tell them go get off their a$$es and protect America's borders. Especially before Hillary Clinton rides this issue into the White House.

vote blue
&we'll save you
vote red
&you'll be dead.
I hope you're right, but I wont hold my breath.
For some reason I don't think an atom bomb could get Bush off his ass on this issue.
The GOP keeps it's head in the sand at it's own peril.
This is a natural marriage for the dems, they are the party of labor after all.
What makes you think the left will actually do something about illegals? When has the left been for anything substantive, and not simply a collective bag of disingenuous hot air?
I'm sure if we looked hard enough, we could find examples of where she also said the opposite. The MSM allows the dems to take both sides of an issue and then just reports the quote that suits the story at the time. IMHO.
Like an earlier poster and myself said this is a natural pro- American labor position that I can see the Dems getting all over. I'm surrpised more haven't jumped on it frankly.
Can you say "WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING!!!"
Sanford/Tancredo in 2008!
Until then, we need to put pressure on Congress and the Bush administration to crack down. There are at least a few sane Republican Senators and Congressmen on this issue (Tancredo, Inhofe for example) and we must also pressure them to swing others to the right side of this issue.
Do you hear that you redheaded peckerwoods!
Even that would not make me a Hillary voter ever.
She is far too dangerous. Another pompous elitist who deigns that what she wants makes her qualified for what she wants.
She is not of the people and no politician will get my vote unless they have the proper perspective and goals.
I second his opinion - God Bless Hillary if she will get tough on illegal immigration - I am sick of tired of eletist King Bush and the RINOs telling us to stick it. Well if they dont start listening to the people the people will tell them to stick it - never thought id say this but on the issue of immigration GO HILLARY PLEASE PROTECT OUR SOVERIGNTY AND MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA!
Have you learned nothing from this last election cycle? The Left would cut off their own heads if it meant knocking Republicans out of office.
As she helped pardon 17 FALN terrorists.
PT Barnum was right, there is a sucker born every minute.
Oh Clancy you know you can't resist her.
http://www.miniclip.com/hillary.htm
Good point! Has Hellary been called racist yet for her remarks? I'll bet not!
Wait a minute. Was I dreaming or did I see a video clip of William Beelzebub Klintoon on Letterman? Klintoon was bragging that in his administration "we" increased the number of immigrants by (something like) 14 million.
(And if we increase the number of legal immigrants by 14 million, you can be sure the number of illegals is also astronomical.) And now Hitlery is saying GW is not doing his job?
GW only inherited the problem. He didn't cause it. He didn't originate it. He didn't perpetuate it. It is a political hot potato that may bury the career of more than one politician.
As long as they cut off their own heads.
I think Blankley is being pretty smart here.
It's not that we believe Hillary's protestations. It's that we have a unique opportunity to USE them, and not to her benefit. The big difficulty the Republicans have had with illegal immigration is that they fear to lose votes over the issue to pandering Democrats. That's basically how Pete Wilson lost California, a lesson that hasn't been lost on Bush and Rove.
But if Bush were to loudly proclaim, "I agree with Senator Clinton! Illegal immigration is illegal, and must be dealt with," then that puts the Democrats into a cleft stick. Either hillary must immediately say that she didn't really mean it, or she will then have it hung around her neck. And either other Democrats would have to go along with her, or more likely, split the party.
Freepers who want a stricter immigration policy, and there are certainly a great many of them, should welcome Blankley's initiative. Let's reach out to hillary and call for a bipartisan effort, right now, to rid the country of illegal immigrants.
Oh what a tangled web she is weaving while practicing her deceiving. She is a liberal Zebra and she cannot change her stripes.
Can she say nothing without a "you know?"
Yip I could care less if she will do something to get a tighter control on the border she will get my support. Up until election time of course. Hey I know a liberal when I see one and she is all liberal but that doesnt mean I wont support her in doing something the RINOs and Bush refuse to do. Its about time that someone had the balls to do something about this and balls is not what the RINOs got.
Are you kidding?! Haven't you been reading some of these threads? There are people here who are seriously giving Hillary *credit* for getting "tough" on illegal immigration, as if they believe she's sincere.
It works for Arlen Specter
Liberal media will compare her(Hitlery Bin-Rotten Al-Clintoooon) with GEORGE WASHINGTON and will call her(Hitlery Bin-Rotten Al-Clintoooon) TRUE PATRIOT.
Satan's Daughter will always be a communist/socialist.
I call her type a 'Castle Communist', a person who has her riches and fine homes but wants everyone else to live like a servant of the state.
Hillary is to be feared. She is America's greatest networker, she has been putting her 'machine' together since her college days.

"Sheeps clothing" indeed.
Both dems and republican pols do nothing about illegal immigration because their business contributors won't allow them too. From Microsoft to Walmart, just about every company profits from the scheme.
Their is no governor on the wages of top management but the rest of us are in a relational arrangement to the wages of illegal immigrants. A union carpenter, an auto mechanic to the baker's helper have a informal but formulaic tie to the illegal who will dig ditches for $6 an hour.
FYI
Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.
Aired 12/16/04 On CNN
DOBBS: Tonight, an estimated 15 million illegal aliens live in this country, at least half of them from Mexico. Many are here because they chose to flee crushing poverty in Mexico.
But, in point of fact, Mexico is one of the richest countries in Latin America, amongst -- the millionaires, billionaires and its wealth concentrated in the hands of very few.
Casey Wian reports from Los Angeles.
CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: They sneak across the border seeking jobs they can't find in Mexico. The question isn't why they come, it's why can't Mexico's economy support its own people.
Nearly half of Mexico's population lives in poverty. Ten percent are indigent, existing on a dollar a day. Yet the nation has vast wealth. Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.
GEORGE W. GRAYSON, COLLEGE OF WILLIAM & MARY: There is a small economic elite who live like maharajas, and there's a political elite that protects them. Our border provides an escape valve which really lets the Mexican political and economic elite off the hook in terms of providing opportunities for their own people.
WIAN (on camera): About 10 percent of Mexico's 105 million people live here in the United States. They're called national heroes by President Vicente Fox because this year they'll send home about $16 billion, more than any Mexican industry except oil.
(voice-over): The country sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex.
Mexico's outdated tax system is plagued by widespread tax evasion. It collects taxes at less than half the rate of the United States. As a result, Mexico's public-school and health-care systems suffer. CHRIS WOODRUFF, CENTER FOR U.S.-MEXICO STUDIES: We now realize -- and particularly in a world where capitalists are mobile -- that redistribution isn't going to work, and what people focus on now instead is allowing the poor to build assets. Mexico has undertaken some programs which will allow the poor to do that. But that's not a process that changes overnight.
WIAN: Meanwhile, the gap between rich and poor is growing. So Mexico continues to export one of its most valuable assets, people.
Casey Wian, CNN, Los Angeles.

DOBBS: The invasion of illegal aliens into this country is one of several threats to our wealth, our standard of living, our quality of life. Another is our exploding trade deficit and the rising export of American wealth overseas. The trend is beginning to discourage if none at home, some at least in foreign countries who are investing in this country.
DOBBS: And a federal judge in Texas today dismissed charges against a defendant in an illegal alien smuggling case. The judge says there was no evidence the defendant profited from the smuggling scheme. Nineteen people were found dead in a truck found in southern Texas in 2003. Two co-defendants will stay on trial in that case.
