WASHINGTON The son of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan unleashed a bitter counterattack on investigators of the U.N. oil-for-food program last night, calling probes of the scandal a "witch hunt" that is part of a "broader Republican political agenda."In his first public comments since the scandal erupted, 31-year-old Kojo Annan came out swinging, insisting there is "no substance" to allegations against him and his father.
"I feel the whole issue has been a witch hunt from Day 1 as part of a broader Republican political agenda," Annan said in a written statement to CNN.

The younger Annan is under investigation for his work for Swiss-based firm Cotecna, which won a lucrative contract to inspect supplies under the oil-for-food program.
Kojo Annan's statement raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill, where efforts to get him to testify about his role in the scandal have so far been unsuccessful.
"We'd be happy to hear from him under oath if he has things to contribute to the investigations," said Rep. Chris Shays (R-Conn.).

Gee, who woulda thought it was the UN and the dems against the honest investigation of stealing from the hungry of Iraq?
Koffi lied, how many died?
Oh, so he's worried about a "REPUBLICAN" agenda ...not one that is "Democratic". Seems like he's chosen his party.
It's Bush's Fault.
Anyone have a photo of this Kojo jerk?
"Witch Hunt?" Why would he fear that?
"I did not have sex with that money!"
"There is no blue dress"
Kofi spared too much rod on this kid.
I think Kofi was this kid's role model.
He's in for a surprise is that's his defense strategy. That plan only works of American politicos, and taking your defense cues from Bill Clinton doesn't work for anyone else.
Neal Boortz has the right idea- kick them off US soil, plop them down in Haiti, and tell them, "when you get this straightened out, give us a call..."
Moreover:

-- Interesting this is being posted today. Talk show host Dennis Prager had the Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Doree Gold, on his show today. Mr. Gold has just written a book about the UN called the Tower of Babble(i think this was the title). Some of the things he was saying about the UN were unbelievable.

"I say we just give the entire country of Haiti to the UN."--or move them to Zimbabwe or another country in Africa. Let them see what the really do for the world.

The sooner we resign from this corrupt organization and kick them off our soil, the better.

Kofi's brat needs to get with the program. He also forgot to blame Haliburton, FoxNews, and talk radio for this "witch hunt" .
It would be interesting to review Kojo's "qualifications" that won him his "job" with the Swiss firm responsible for oversight on goods going to Iraq as part of the "Oil for Food" scam...
It appears the fruit of the Coffee Anus tree didn't fall far from its roots...
A family that scams together, hangs togethers..
How many Americans died while Kofi was bribed?
Semper Fi
Mark Steyn hit another one out of the park in today's UK Telegraph.
The scale of the UN Oil-for-Fraud programme is way beyond any of the corporate scandals that so excite the progressive mind. Oil-for-Food was designed to let the Iraqi government sell a limited amount of oil in return for food and other necessities for its people. Between 1996 and 2003, Saddam did more than $100 billion of business, all of it approved by Kofi Annan's Secretariat.
He goes on to note that of this $100 billion worth of oil they sold, only about $15 billion seems to have become food. No wonder everyone was starving, I suppose. But then it gets deeper, since the US is in Baghdad auditing the accounts. Thats something the UN policy wonks didn't expect to ever happen.
At the UN they were taken aback by this impertinent auditing by US government agencies. At Enron, you have to run the books past Arthur Andersen. But at UNron you don't need to hire even a ledger clerk. That total of $46 billion - 15 for food, 31 for Ba'ath Party interior decorating - is Kofi's best guess, and he expects us to take his word for it.
True, he approved some scrutiny. All Oil-for-Food shipments into Iraq had to be inspected - initially by Lloyd's Register of London, but in 1998 they were let go and replaced by a Swiss company, who had on the payroll a consultant by the name of Kojo Annan, son of Kofi. Hmm.
Well, that's pretty freakin' interesting, eh? It's been reported elsewhere, of course, but when you take a little tidbit like that, who do you think can properly highlight it, CNN or Mark Steyn? I suggest you run off and read his wonderful piece and then come back to this.
So anyway, I goggled "Kojo Annan", super-sleuth that I am, and came up with this interesting message in the archives of californiaaviation.org from May of 2000.

Kofi Annan's Son Linked to 75m Harare Airport Deal
Africa News Service
Lagos (This Day, May 8, 2000) - Kojo Annan sounded tetchy. "I want to make it very clear, to avoid speculation about my father," he said. "When Air Harbour was awarded airport contract I was not on its board of directors."
The defensiveness of the son of United Nations secretary-general, Kofi Annan was understandable. Sunday Business has learnt he is a director of the offshore company that benefited from what Zimbabwe's opposition alleges is the country's most notorious act of cronyism.
Damn! When you can be accused of Zimbabwe's most notorious act of cronyism, you're pushing the envelope!
It is a bizarre tale involving a wayward nephew of president Robert Mugabe, the son of a former Saudi oil minister, as well as the son of the UN chief. It is set against the backdrop of a £75 million contract to redevelop Harare International Airport, the little-known Isle of Man-registered company that won it, and Mugabe's new mansion.
Boy, talk about some bizarre connections. Looks like all the nephews are wheeling and dealing.
The youngest of Kofi Annan's three children and the son from his first marriage, Kojo is based in Accra, Ghana, and in Lagos, Nigeria, his mother's home country. He is a partner in a Lagos firm of consultants called Sutton Investments, which is involved in development projects. The 26-year-old's business activities raised eyebrows last year when it emerged that a client had won the £6 million contract to monitor the UN's "oil-for-food" programme in Iraq.
They gave the job of overseeing that gigantic UN program to a 26-year old from Lagos, Nigeria? Is that a skunk I smell or what? He probably has dinner with all the Nigerian Spamlords, too.
Specialising in high quality tourist developments, Air Harbour has big plans for expansion. Led by chairman and principal shareholder Hani Yamani, Saudi oil minister in the 1970s - the board comprises people of many nationalities.
The 1970s brought us some devastatingly high-oil prices, led by Saudi Arabia, no? If you stood in a gas line back then, you can now sleep easy knowing the Saudi oil minister who became famous back then is involved with the UN chief's son, and probably the UN chief, if arranging all those Iraqi oil deals needed his expertise. Yet in all likelihood he's the only person escaping the Nigerian spammers, since he's working with a Kojo, who's headquartered in Lagos. After all, what Nigerian would try to spam a Nigerian?
The firm's international ambitions are also reflected in its corporate structure. It is registered in the isle of Man, has an operating centre in Cyprus, recently opened a subsidiary in the UK but does its business in Africa and the Middle East.
Oh, I'd love to know exactly where in the Middle-East they do business. Iraq perhaps? It would've made overseeing scamming the UN Oil-For-Food program a bit easier now, wouldn't it? And I wonder if Kofi is so upset over Cyprus vote yesterday because it affected his nephew's company's real-estate prices. I mean, who knows what these people have cooked up, or how many fires they keep going at once?
You know, if you think about it, Iraq sold $100 billion worth of oil during the program, yet only got about $46 billion worth of stuff, much of which was scammed. So where'd the other $54 billion disappear to? Given these connections, I'll bet they hid it somewhere in Nigeria and are just having trouble moving it out of the country. Hmm
Maybe those 1,000 pieces of Nigerian spam, each promising me a cut of $54 million, ARE ALL TRUE!
"part of a broader Republican political agenda," Annan said "
Could that have been Hillary over his left shoulder??
