Murders in the United States declined by nearly 6 percent in the first half of the year after rising for four straight years, the FBI reported yesterday. Almost all other crimes also declined. Overall, violent crime was down 2 percent in the first six months of the year compared with the same period of 2003, according to preliminary figures provided to the FBI by more than 10,700 state and local police agencies.

I wonder how much the past increases in violent crime were related to the Dot Com bust.

The economy took a sharp downturn, and that's bound to have some social side effects.

That can't be right, with all these states passing concealed carry laws.

One wonders how much the murder rate increased in the Blue Voting Inner cities and declined in the red voting areas?

Dr John Lott has documented that when the good citizens of a state get the right to carry concealed weapons, the murder rate, armed robbery, rape and assualt rates go down.

Then if the state has or adopts a three or two strike rule, the rate goes down again.

I wonder how much of the change is just due to random fluctuations.

My mother predicted the current political situation in Canada during the late 1960's to early 70's when our draft dodgers were running off to Canada.

As Canada becomes more of a Godless/anything goes/pro gay agenda and pro Islamofascist country, your question above may well be like my Mother's predictions about Canada.

My favorite liberal contortion is when they try to explain how the (horribly problematic!) increase in prison population has nothing to do with the simultaneous (superfluous, meaningless) decrease in violent crime rates... especially when it is a hyper-liberal law professor!

(I thought I might really regret taking that Prisoners' Rights class, but it was truly a parade of entertainment for me! LOL)

Actually, I know all that. I read More Guns, Less Crime. I forgot the sarcasm.
