The last start up I almost went down with also took my hundreds of thousands of worthless "stock options" with it. Indeed, with both the husband and wife working jobs where they are so in demand that they can work long hours (I personally consider it an honor) I would say "shut yer trap" to this idiot.

I'm redecorating my home with my worthless stock options...

What a "learning experience" this has been.

Just got a great gig with a company that has been in business for over 20 years. No more start-ups for me...

Sigh.

I work in the Tech Industry, average about 50-55 hours a week. I also put in 1-2 hours a day to keep up with my certification and/or area of expertise.

Do I like doing this? no. Do I accept responsibility and accountability, for this is the industry I chose to work in (knowing that long hours are expected), yes.

This industry is not for the feint of heart, especially now that out-sourcing appears to be gaining in popularity.

I will do what I have to do to look after my family. I take things month-to-month now; one day my employer may wish to discontinue my services.

It is very tough right now. I've always put in the extra effort; went to school at night to get my MS, constantly working beyond normal hours, always attempting to keep my skills current and sharp. Doesn't leave much time to retool.

It's tough, but than again, no one said life would be easy either.
