Yesha, far-right meet to join powers
Jerusalem Post ^ | Dec. 12, 2004 | Yaakov Katz

The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip (Yesha Council) met recently with activists associated with the extreme right and expressed interest in intensifying and uniting their mutual struggle against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Gaza Strip disengagement plan.

"Until now the council was considered the moderate voice among the different right-wing groups opposed to Sharon's plan," one right-wing activist who participated in the series of meetings said Sunday. "They have however realized that slogans such as 'We have love and it will win' are not achieving their goal."

The meetings, three of which took place in Jerusalem and two in Gaza, were attended by senior council members, Gush Katif residents and members of the far-right including Kach, Yitzhar settlers and members of the Defensive Shield organization – led by Education Minister Limor Livnat's brother - Noam Livnat.

One activist associated with the extreme right-wing admitted he never thought he would sit at the same table with members of the settlement council.

"In my wildest dreams I never thought I would sit down to talk with the settlement council," he said. "But they have realized that their campaign and their slogans are not working and the need to change their style."

Another activist, in favor of implementing a more aggressive campaign, praised the unification of the various anti-disengagement groups. "If all of the organizations work together we will have the ability to paralyze the country within a matter of days," he said.

Head of the Gush Katif anti-disengagement headquarters Eran Sternberg, who attended some of the meetings, said concrete decisions were not made but that all of the participants did agree the time has come to intensify the struggle.

"They [different right-wing groups] spoke with residents and came up with new ideas which would make the struggle more aggressive," he said. "We are unwilling to continue being well-behaved kids while Sharon brutally rapes us."

On Sunday right-wing activist and head of the National Jewish Front political party Baruch Marzel was interrogated by Jerusalem Police for allegedly inciting to violence. The investigation was launched after Marzel sent a letter to Jewish residents of the Gaza Strip in August calling on them to intensify their struggle against the disengagement plan and to actively resist the evacuation.

Yehoshua Mor-Yosef, the council's spokesman, denied council members met with right-wing extremists, calling reports of the meeting "one big lie."

One far-right activist explained why Mor-Yosef is prevented from admitting he and others met with the extreme groups. "What can he say? That he joined Kach?" the activist asked cynically. "It is against everything he grew up on and everything he has led his public to believe."

Meanwhile Sunday, Army Radio reported that the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has beefed up Sharon's security detail fearing Jewish extremists will try and assassinate him.

According to the radio report, the Shin Bet estimated Jewish extremists are now more motivated to kill the prime minister since they realize he will succeed in forming a new coalition which will push the disengagement plan forward.

You mean an American Jewish Conservative?  !

I am not desirous that any of my on-line Jewish friends would emigrate permanently to Israel. Knowing any who lives in Israel are at even modest risk, current in country "quiet" notwithstanding, entails a more active faith walk on our/their behalf, over them being here comfortably ensconced in Fortress America.

Yet, G-d help Israeli contemporary liberalism if they ever do make aliyah in large numbers.

God help America if they do. They are the doctors, teachers, lawyers and industrial giants. They will leave the leftists whiners behind. The Conservative Jews are always very valuable productive members of society.

Leftist whiners are always a anchor around the neck.

:) It sounds like the Israeli media has their own version of Dan Blather, et. al. I hate to think of how they'd define Christian supporters of Israel.....whatever insults they can think up, I'll take as a badge of honor, just like I do with their US counterparts in Hell-y-wood and New Jerk City.

They actually on the surface treat Christian Supporters pretty well. They do appreciate the support. There are the leftist Hyper-Religious who are pretty nasty, but I would say as a Christian I am treated a lot nicer in Israel by the general public than I am treated at home in California. For example, the Israeli Government gives me a free Christmas tree every year. On the other hand, getting a visa can be a real problem, I have had real persecution given to me by the Shaas party. Once when they were supposed to give me a visa and the girl refused illegally. I asked her why and she said "There are too many Christians in Israel", and turned her back on me. End of interview.

It is like the right hand is shaking your hand, while the left hand is slapping your face. Most Jews I meet are very nice, but there are a few bigots. Israel is a free country, and people are free to be the way they want. Political Correctness is not a disease prevalent over here yet.

In America, I am free to be a Christian, but only in a closet. I wish America was free like Israel once again.

Wow! If the US Government started giving free Christmas trees or menorahs, the howls of protest would be heard on the moon! When I visited Israel in 1986, my experience was that even those Sabras who say they are secular treated with graciousness and kindness, even more so when they found out I was an American Christian. It sounds like you have more freedom to be a Christian in Israel than we are in the USA these days - witness the increasingly nasty annual ACLU/Lib-Rad "rights" groups/assorted carpetbaggers antics about even the word "Christmas", nativity scenes, etc.
