I have an uncle that was a CO in Viet Nam. He did not run to Canada. When he was drafted, he went into the medic field and was a combat medic. He went on patrols with the rest of his unit and never refused to do his duty.

If this jerk is such a CO, why not be a combat medic? That way he can still do his duty and not violate his CO status.

With an all volunteer armed forces, unless you have put yourself in harms way by heroically putting your life on the line to defend this country, I don't think you have the right to say what should happen to this guy. I haven't, so I won't. To those who have...God's blessings and thank you.

A big Bravo to your uncle - unfortunately, most CO's don't want to serve, period. When I was in, I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman. When the first Gulf War happened, there were medical guys who were ready to run to Canada if they got orders to go. One doctor had to be "escorted" from the hospital when he did not report for deployment.
