Louisiana (AP) -- An 8-year-old girl was suspended for nine days for bringing to school what appeared to be about 30 "Jell-O shots" -- though it was unclear whether they contained alcohol.

The girl told the principal that her mother, who works in a bar, makes alcoholic shots at home and sells them at work. The fourth-grader said her mother had instructed her to take the shots to school and sell them, three for $1, to make some money for Christmas, Nowakowski said.

MORE:
The gelatin was turned over to the sheriff's department for testing to see if it contained alcohol.

The girl was suspended for violating school rules against possessing or trying to distribute a "lookalike," or something that appears to contain drugs or alcohol.

Under the lookalike rule, the girl's suspension will stand no matter what the sheriff's department finds.

"The school system's position is, it doesn't matter if it had alcohol in it or not," Nowakowski said.

The names of the girl and her mother were not released.

The mother must also allow school officials to test her daughter's hair for signs of drug use, Nowakowski said.

It's sad this little girl gets the suspension for her mother being an idiot.

I don't understand how she was suspended if they did not know there was alcohol in the Jello? What is wrong with a alcohol free jello shot?

Seem the old adage "there is always room for jello" is no longer valid

Welcome to the wonderful world of zero tolerance. A non-alcoholic Jello-Shot is the same as one containing vodka. A kid pointing his finger at a classmate is the same as his pointing a loaded gun. Being a liberal means not having to differentiate.

I agree with you. And this is insane. They're also going to drug test the poor child.

Good thing the kid didn't get caught handing out Christmas cards too. She might have gotten expelled entirely....

I have never hade a jello shot and never seen anyone have one. Do you mix alcohol with the jello in a bowl, put it in a fridge, then sell a shotful at the bar? Or do they make jello, put some in a glass and add a shot then swallow the whole thing? I think I read where you drink them off a girls belly or a mans if you are a fem or a sodomite.

If the stuff does test positive for alcohol, drug-testing the little girl probably is a good idea. If this mother thinks its okay to send her 4th grader to school to sell alcohol-laced sweets to her schoolmates, there's no telling what else the mother is having her little girl do. But the little girl shouldn't be suspended -- the mother should be locked up for a while.
