Holiday weight loss? Here is a New Years Resolution, that you can Keep!!

TAKE IT OFF.. TAKE IT ALL OFF!

By, Carlo3b
I can barely recall those carefree days when TAKE IT ALL OFF, had a much more appealing connotation. Today, taking it off, too often means shedding unwanted pounds. Now the dreaded Happy Holidays feasts only add to the burdens, more of a OH NO, than a HO HO!

Today, I am making a New Years Resolution that can actually come true, not just for me, but for you too.  How about this;

TAKE IT OFF.. AND KEEP IT OFF!

Many of you know me more as a Chef, cooking on TV, authoring Cookbooks, or overseeing the cuisine at my restaurants and hotels. Things have indeed changed over the years, and just like many of you, as age and experience expanded my knowledge, so did my less active years expand my waistline, and so did my need to learn how to control it.

After years of research and study of diets and effective weight loss, I literally stumbled into an answer that finally worked. Several years ago I encountered a procedure that changed my life in a most dramatic way. I had spent 35 years of my life as a chain smoker, a habit that is all too common in the hotel and restaurant industry. Smoking was finally beginning to seriously affect my health, as I was experiencing all of the vile manifestations of a typical smoker. I had tried dozens of unsuccessful "stop smoking" gimmicks, including pills, patches, counting contraptions, acupuncture, as well as cold turkey. I was convinced that I was probably never going to rid myself of this curse.

Things changed however, by sheer coincidence while I was on tour, taping a TV cooking show at a swanky Baltimore hotel. During a lull in the production, I wandered down the hall to find a quiet place to sit and relax, when I happened upon a stop smoking clinic.

This session, "Quit Smoking With Hypnosis", was being conducted by a local hypnotist. I really wasn’t too impressed, as I didn’t think hypnosis or anything as simple as that could work with my deep seeded tobacco addiction, but I had heard from close friends, that hypnosis was great for relieving stress, so I decided to give it a try. Forty minutes later I emerged from that hotel auditorium, as a nonsmoker. I stopped smoking that evening and I have never looked back, not even once.
What is Hypnosis, and how it work?

The U.S. Federal government describes hypnosis as having two defining and intricate features: (1) the bypass of the critical factor, which limits the mind, and (2) the establishment of acceptable selective thinking (preferred behavior) through induced suggestion while relaxing in a hypnotic sleep. REALLY!

With the aid of hypnosis, you can rid yourself of these intrusive self imposed fears, conditions, or even addictions, and replace them with new and more empowering thoughts and habits leading to a healthier and happier life. The Hypnotherapist acts as a facilitator, supplanting desired motivations in place of destructive habitual behavior. In other words, Hypnosis helps you exchange your nasty habits with better and more beneficial proclivities, and who would argue with that?

Overeating, trouble sleeping, and stress, just like smoking, are just really bad habits, and in order to "kick the habit" so to speak, you must modify your behavior. Thus, just as millions have walked away from a lifelong smoking habit, so can those who wish to shed their unwanted weight, and as a bonus, and keep it off, forever!

Shortly after I discovered the power of Hypnosis, I began an in-depth study into it’s other benefits and applications. Soon I began to apply it to weight control, with wildly successful results. Now as a Hypnotherapist, using my years of experiences in all areas of my life, I am able to assist others in helping themselves solve their weight problem.

Hypnosis may be the answer that you have been looking for, much as it was for me. You need to lose weight? Why not just sleep it off?

This was taken from a recent article appearing in the Houston Business Journal. Carlo, is an award winning Master Chef, Nutritionist, Author, and Behavioral Hypnotherapist, practicing in the Houston area.

Well, this works, but is not a panacea either, you will still have to watch what you eat, oh, yea, and exercise too, to get the life changing benefits of being fit and healthy.

Often, folks that need to lose weight also have other troubling aspects to complicate their lives, sleep depravation, stress, tense jobs, drinking, smoking, teeth and mouth problems, and generally just plain poor health. What hypnosis can and will do if you are truly ready to make a commitment, is change the way you think... about yourself, your other destructive behavior, and your eating habits, and make it a whole lot easier to approach life. Some of my successes have been truly remarkable and heart wrenching in what this process has done to change lives.

Just like everything else, there are good practitioners and others, not so good, but it usually isn't hard to find a good one. I can help you look for someone in your area.

If you need to get help, there is no better time than now!

Me tooooo!!! I will go for 2-3 months without thinking too much about quitting...then I really focus for a few weeks..but have yet to succeed. I stopped for a couple of years back when I was pregnant and my son was an infant..but that was 20 something years ago :(

Tried all the methods...even did acupuncture. (Just lit one now..lol...even contemplating quitting is unsettling!)

I'm convinced even though my concious mind wants to stop- part of me must not have the desire- or I would have suffered through it and succeeded.

Are there people who just aren't hypnotizable?

Same here. I stopped once about 8 years ago, gained about 20 lbs, and decided I'd rather be a smoker. My problem is, I really like smoking, but I would just as soon stop.I often feel I'm playing with fire - literally. Sigh......

This is something to consider, Carlo. Could I really kill 2 birds with one stone??

Thanks for the info. You are an inspiration!!

I had bookmarked your Thanksgiving Recipe thread for later use and went back to it just this morning. And now you want me to lose weight?

Oh, you are an evil man, Carlo.

The only hope I have is that new drug, Rimonabant. I've tried EVERYTHING and I can't manage to stay on a diet OR quit smoking.

I stopped smoking on 2002 after 30 years Carlo. It was one of the easier things I've done. I simply stopped inhaling, and gradually after 6-9 months the addiction goes away. It's really similar to the gradual withdrawl offered by the patches. In order to get an addictive dose of nicotine you have to inhale, if you stop, you reverse the process of addiction. Now... If I could only stop inhaling food, I'd be all set. And, yes, I packed on 30 pounds without any real change in eating or activity, so now its panic time.

Carlo; Hypnosis does not work on everybody..
Probably only on democrats or ex-democrats, RINOs and moderates of any stripe.. for obvious reasons..

Don't know why, but have stated above possible reasons..
A few have tried on me, to no avail, even some who they said they could hypno anybody.. couldn't..

ALL;...
So, I believe latent democratic engrams enable it(hypno). I don't have a democratic bone in my body.. Since democracy sucks.. And also, by the way, democracy is the disease that causes socialism.. Socialism don't just appear it requires democracy first.. Communism which is a version of socialism happens when all vestiges of democracy are finally trashed.

Maybe I'm immune or Svengali's don't work here.. but if hypno works for you.. then get rid of the fat first and then rethink what democracy really IS second.. both persuits can only improve your life..

I simply stopped inhaling, and gradually after 6-9 months the addiction goes away.

I quit many, many years ago by using two methods at the same time. First, I restricted places I could smoke. I started with the car, then the bedroom, the kitchen and so on. And I coupled that with cutting back on the number of cigarettes I would allow myself everyday (although I could cheat).

Within a year I was smoke free. Toward the end I smoked so seldom ... maybe a cigarette a day or less, that I kept the cigarettes in the freezer. Nothing like stale cigarettes to push you to just stop!

My Aunt used hypnosis to quit smoking. The first time it lasted for 6 months. The second time it lasted longer.

Have you actually used hypnosis for weight loss?

I am so sorry to hear this from so many people, and I know how you must feel. Habits sometimes die hard, and some we take to our grave, but we have to preserver or our lives between NOW and that grave can be saddened by our lack of resolve.

As for trying everything, perhaps the problems you want to rid yourself of are really just escapes from a bigger problem.. Look for the answer elsewhere, it may be hiding under a different rock. Everyone can stop doing what makes them sick or sad, it usually takes a major commitment to find the answer to that puzzle.

Take smoking as an example, too many folks associate smoking with a reason to take a break from a hard or boring task. The smoking becomes the reprieve, and a good reason to relax for a moment.. It is a horrible trade off but the smoker doesn't want to face life without an escape mechanism, that is where a Hypnotherapist comes to the rescue. Change the habit to something more enjoyable and healthy..

By the way, Hypnotists are like Champagne, some fizzle with excitement, and some have become flat and sour... :)
