House investigates panel on civil rights
Washington Times ^ | 12/04/04 | Steve Miller

A House Judiciary subcommittee is investigating the finances of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, whose chairman, Mary Frances Berry, is in a dispute over whether her term ends this week or next month.
"We are looking into management, financials, contracting ...," confirmed Mindy Barry, oversight counsel for the Constitution, civil rights and property rights subcommittee, which has authorized but not yet used a subpoena to obtain the needed information.
The subpoena seeks "all documents referring to all contracts, specifically dealings with [public relations firms] McKinney and Associates and McKinney and McDowell; all documents regarding any fees paid to anyone," said a source familiar with the investigation. Earlier this year, the commission refused to cooperate in a Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation.
The subcommittee's inquiry was triggered by unsatisfactory reviews by the GAO, which sought to find out how the commission spent its money.

White House records show Ms. Berry's term is up tomorrow, conflicting with a Nov. 9 memo sent to commissioners asserting that "the next commissioner terms that will be ending are those of Chairperson Berry and Vice Chairperson Reynoso. According to long-standing commission records, those terms end on midnight, January 21, 2005."

A similar disagreement over term dates was settled in a federal court in 2002, when Peter Kirsanow was appointed to replace commissioner Victoria Wilson, who was also placed on the commission to fill a partially completed term. The court ruled that Ms. Wilson's tenure was limited to the term she was appointed to fulfill.

They'll probably have to send in US Marshalls to remove her from her seat. Heck, she'll start her own civil rights commission in exile!

In 1980, she was appointed by President Jimmy Carter and confirmed by the Senate as a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan fired her from the commission for criticizing his civil rights policies. In 1984, she sued and won reinstatement in federal court. In 1993, President Bill Clinton named Berry chairperson of the commission, and she was re-appointed in 1999.

Send in Federal investigators NOW with a search warrant to seize all computers and financial records.

Is the McKinney of McKinney and Associates the former ex- and soon to be new Congressional Representative Cynthia McKinney?

A great post for those of us who suffered through Clinton's 2000 last minute shenanigans! His pardons, the "theft" of White House property, and this: Berry's contrived early resignation so Clinton could re-appoint her for another full term. You can bet that if Kerry had won, he would have re-appointed her.

C-Span Washington Journal gives this column a mention this morning.

She is just a fool blinded by her own hatred of whitey. People like her want to keep the fires of racism burning to have a job and promote the liberal agenda. I will be glad to see people of her mindset exposed and terminated from the government sugar tit. In her hate filled mind racism belongs to only the honkies, however in reality it is an equal opportunity employer. Ms Berry has that mental disorder called projection and is unfit to hold any government position on dealing with civil rights issues. Hopefully she will enjoy being escorted from her temporary abode of employment by the US Marshals Service. I have to presume she thought dinasaours keep regenerating in life.

I see one of the main problems, jimuh "the fool" carter. Klintoon was just icing on the cake for he is a fool too. Liberals/communists need to be remembered for their stupid and harmful actions to America.

Don't you know she was framed! Nixon had this set-up to see her heroic actions in civil rights go down in the flames of scandal. Ha Ha. "Let those chips fall where they may."

Sounds like the House isn't going to let her abuses get swept under the rug after she's gone.

Good on them.

why is it.. I suspect these contracts all lead to UN, anti-American orgs? If it's just as simple as funneling money to the usual anti-white, anti-Republican, anti-Christian orgs... Shouldn't Ms. Berry be standing tall? Doing a Janet Reno?

Who could ever forget.. that anti-American, British, Israel "UN conference" in Durban? Where Colin Powell and US walked out? Hmmm...... Of course, this was before the murderers murdered 3000 innocents in NY.

If there's a ping list for this investigation -- please add me! :)
