LONDON, December 2, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A study published in the current issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry has revealed that 43% of gays, lesbians and bisexuals have a mental disorder. The study carried out by the Imperial College in London surveyed 1285 respondents from these groups.
Mental problems included anxiety, sleep disturbance, panic attacks, depressive moods or thoughts, problems with memory or concentration and compulsive behaviour or obsessive thoughts. The researchers noted that there is a dearth of research into the mental health of gay men, lesbians and bisexual men and women in the UK.
The study found that 31% of respondents also attempted suicide. Suicide attempts were found to be linked to discrimination such as recent physical attack. However, the study did not find a link between discrimination and mental disorder.
An abstract of the study is available free online at:

SSAD = 100%
THANK YOU!!! We FReepers are about the last ones left willing to call this a mental disorder. Everyone else is either to brainwashed or too cowed by the Gaystapo to call it what it is.

How can a scientific study miss 57% of the phenomenon it is studying?

Mental problems included anxiety, sleep disturbance, panic attacks, depressive moods or thoughts, problems with memory or concentration and compulsive behaviour or obsessive thoughts. Oh, for Heaven's sake! If you surveyed 1,000 people randomly, an honest response would reveal that 100% had at some time experienced "anxiety, sleep disturbance, depressive moods or thoughts, problems with memory and concentration ..."
This "study" doesn't show that homosexuals are disturbed ... it shows that "psychology" has revealed that *everyone* is "disturbed."

A study published in the current issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry has revealed that 43% of gays, lesbians and bisexuals have a mental disorder. So, it takes a British psychiatry study to tell us common folk what we already knew.

...anxiety, sleep disturbance, panic attacks, depressive moods or thoughts, problems with memory or concentration ... Hate to rain on the parade, but by this criteria, I doubt we'd do as well.

The reamining 57% were too ill from sexually tranmitted diseases to be subjected to the study.

Not at all surprising.
This would fit in with the anecdotal observation that homosexuals tend to have much higher than average IQs. (The impression is backed up by the fact that median income for homosexuals is much higher than for the rest of society).
There is a fairly strong correlation between high IQs and mental instability, and it makes sense that sexual deviancy would be a marker for those who suffer from it.

Mental problems included anxiety, sleep disturbance, panic attacks, depressive moods or thoughts, problems with memory or concentration and compulsive behaviour or obsessive thoughts.That's a pretty general and broad assessment of 'mental disorder.'
