Having moved to FL, I can confirm the facts. People are not attentive to their driving, and they speed and run red lights like crazy here. They also seem to assume that because the sun is shining, the freeways can't possibly be hazardous. I suspect much of the problem can be found in our combination of punks, very senior citizens, and Michiganders.

I agree. I was stationed in Orlando for a while when I was in the Navy. I would have to rank driving in Orlando as worse than DC, NYC, LA, or any other of a dozen major cities I have experienced. It is the only time I saw people carpooling for the sole purpose of reducing the risk that your own vehicle would be involved in a wreck.

I think your phrase "not attentive" is far too kind - willful and malicicious negligence seemed more appropriate on a few of my near misses.
