My mom just called me on the phone - they found a spot on her mammogram and did a surgical biopsy yesterday - it is malignant.
They caught it fairly early, but she said it was rather large "a 1.7" - I am unfamiliar with the scale used.
They will be operating Thursday week to remove and test nearby lymph nodes. What they find at that time will determine the course of treatment, but the current plan is for radiation.
My mother in law beat this last year (thanks I'm sure in part to the prayer warriors of FR), and my mom's next door neighbor was also diagnosed with breast cancer just 4 weeks ago. This is a trend that we do not like!
Mom seems upbeat and confident, but if she's half as scared as I am . . . she's pretty scared.
Pinging both dog and horse lists for friends to offer their prayers.
God bless you all. Prayers sent!
They sound like my mom and dad. My prayers are with your Mom and your family.
This is a bit of a shock, still sinking in.
Mom has always been the health nut of the family and in great shape.
Prayers for you and your mom.
Such wonderful things are being accomplished, it is with the greatest hope that these prayers are offered for your Mother.
Prayers going up for your mom and your whole family.
Prayers offered for your Mother and Father and you!
Faith is so important . . agreeing in prayer for ya'll.
Prayers on behalf of you and yours.
Prayers for your mom, and your family, being said.
Herceptin is the first humanized antibody approved for the treatment of HER2 positive metastatic breast cancer. Herceptin is designed to target and block the function of HER2 protein overexpression.
Research has shown that women with HER2 positive metastatic breast cancer have a more aggressive disease, greater likelihood of recurrence, poorer prognosis and approximately half the life expectancy of women with HER2 negative breast cancer.
Herceptin in combination with paclitaxel is indicated for treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress the HER2 protein and who have not received chemotherapy for their metastatic disease. Herceptin as a single agent is indicated for the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress the HER2 protein and who have received one or more chemotherapy regimens for their metastatic disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Herceptin in September 1998.
The ultimate physician, our Lord and Saviour will take care of your Mother. We lift her up in prayer this night and continue in prayer for her until this too shall pass. Keep the faith.
Well, if I had my druthers, I'd take both 'mine' (ahem) out right now and save myself the scare she's having. Every woman over 40 in my family goes through this, for me, it seems almost just a matter of time.
Have confidence and hope. They'll get it.
I have her on my prayer list.
Praying for you and your mom and dad.
My prayers are with you, your Mother, and your family tonight.
God bless your Mom and your whole family. Prayers sent!
