Ok. Because Powell was responsible for 9-11. Sure. That isn't even worthy of a response, let alone a serious one.
Perhaps Powell should have spent less time shmoozing and coddling the Saudis and more cracking the whip on their backs due to their financial and ideological support of those who *are* responsible for blowing up my immediate neighborhood.

Well, I'm sick to death of kowtowing to every tyrant out there and bending over backwards to protect their widdle feewings. How about if, for once, they take our sensibilities and culture into consideration?
For an alleged SuperPower, we're like a bunch of 'whipped wimps sometimes.

"Department sources said many diplomats are discussing a mass resignation if Pletka is appointed."Sounds great! It's not like they'll be missed.

I believe that she is far too intelligent to do anything that would be self serving. She hs in the past done what had been right for the country I don't believe that she will stop now. Power is not what she is after peace and harmony in the Arab world is her goal if this is accomplished through a strengthened DOS good....

Mass resignation? Go ahead.
There is no way these comfortable GS-15's are giving up their cushy jobs.
That gets me to thinking. How many career SES (Senior Executive Service) positions -- not politically appointed-- are there at State? Anybody know?

Pity the poor Albanians. Cleaning ladies are lowly regaurded in their culture. In our culture, cleaning ladies both look and act more respectably than Madeline Albright.

Rice has been urged to choose a compromise candidate . . .
How come we never heard about Clinton being urged to choose someone for a specific post when he was president? I'm sick of these people telling the President and his appointees what to do. Who do they think they are? They didn't win!!!! A victorious team in sports isn't required to forfeit a teamate because they won, so why here?

Like Porter Goss & Co. is having to pry the leaches out of the CIA, Dr.Condoleeza Rice will be passing out scalpels to rid US of the cancer in the State Department. Bureaucrats at the Department of Agriculture would threaten "mass resignations" if Dr. Rice, or someone else tasked with cleaning up the Department, were appointed Secretary.

I liked Bolton when he told the UN no deals on the gun ban.

Oh yes, it'd be nice to sweep the trash out.
But how do you like this:
Some have been urging their Arab counterparts to express concern over Pletka's candidacy.
"Counterparts"? The vermin has the only task to outsmart the Arabs, to battle them by the means of diplomacy until it's real weapons' turn. Instead, they go for help in the internal struggle to their foreign opponents, even enemies in some instances?!
It's not a mass resignation which is in order. They should be "mass fired", IMHO.

Fifty years after ol' Joe McCarthy warned us, we are finally doing something about our commie-congested State Dept.
To: datura
You want to get a decent department of state that will shoot straight and tell it like it is ?
Have Condi appoint about 100 cowboys to the Middle East diplomatic mission.
The Saudi's and islamics would go nuts hearing cowboys say 'ma'am' to each woman they meet and seeing them treat women with respect and dignity.

" It's not a mass resignation which is in order. They should be "mass fired", IMHO." ... That's good.
As I was replying to the poster, in my #130 post, I was going to equate it to President Reagans firing of the air traffic controllers, but didn't take the time as I would have had to differentiate between this topic and the strike. Lazy of me. ;)
Thanks.

"Nightmare at Foggy Bottom: Arabists panicked
at prospect of Rice's appointments ... But Powell is gone, to be replaced by National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Foggy Bottom is scared. Nowhere is the fear more palpable than in the department's Near East Bureau. There, the fear is that Rice will bring in her own Middle East team and sideline the naysayers who opposed the war in Iraq, a vigorous campaign against Iranian nuclear weapons and the boycott of the late Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat."
Heeheeheehee! Foggy Bottom Arabists panicked! Oh yeah, baby! Long overdue and about high damn time for a major clean up of the stiped tushes at Foggy Bottom! I hope Dr. Rice gives them the left foot of fellowship right out the door on 23rd St NW!
