"The criminals want to send you to the barricades," he tells nations cops, soldiers
(Korrespondent.net) - Presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko called on the leaders of the armed forces and security forces to defy all orders to take action against the Ukrainian people, appealing to them to take care of the country's citizens, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Flanked by Ukrainian boxer Volodymyr Klitschko, pop star Ruslana, and Okean Elzy rock band leader Slavko Vakarchuk, Yushchenko made the appeal in front of several hundred thousand people on Maidan Nezalezhnosti during late afternoon of Nov. 24.
Yushchenko appealed "on behalf of the Ukrainian nation, which had chosen him president," to the leaders of the army and the security structure, but also to the soldiers and militiamen themselves."
He underlined that the choice of the people had been defiled, and that what was happening in Ukraine at the moment was a crime on the part of the authorities, "who want to maintain a regime of lawlessness, corruption, and abuse of human rights," backed up by the military and the security organs.
"Thousands of people in epaulets, dozens of army units and organs of the Interior Ministry have already given their word. They're all with the Ukrainian people. On the side of the people -- the place of every honest person," Yushchenko announced.
"The criminals want to send you to the barricades. There won't be found there the sons of those who are pushing you into bloodshed. They're running away. But we're staying with you, we're building a new Ukraine. The country needs your honesty, your experience, and your professionalism," he said in his appeal.
Yushchenko told the leaders of the security structures that the responsibility for maintaining order lies with them, and them to defy all orders to turn their arms on the population. He said that the opposition was using only legal means, and that only the security forces could provoke violence.
"You're obliged in any case not to allow foreign armed forces onto Ukrainian territory," Yushchenko said.
"I appeal to all to whom the people have entrusted weapons -- stand up for the defense of the country... The time has come to defend our relatives, our brothers and sisters, our children," Yushchenko said.

Opposition Calls for Strike in Ukraine
By NATASHA LISOVA
Associated Press Writer
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- Opposition leaders called Wednesday for a nationwide strike to shut down factories, schools and transportation after officials declared Ukraine's pro-Kremlin prime minister the winner of a presidential runoff election that many countries denounced as rigged. < snip >

Several things they discuss in the article is that the pop star is going on a hunger strike, and Lech Walesa is going to the Ukraine to help mediate the situation.
There is also a photo album on that page further down on the right.
Bush is supporting Yuschenko, not Putin's lackeys. You are rooting for the enemy by supporting Putin's henchmen.
An ugly fight may be better than a pretty dictatorship, though. I just hope it doesn't come to either.
Yep, I think we may see some bloodshed before all this is over. The situation is deteriorating by the minute.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department is alerting U.S. citizens to the potential for civil unrest in Ukraine, following that country's disputed presidential elections. The U.S. Embassy in Kiev has urged Americans living in Ukraine to remain vigilant about the possibility of election-related demonstrations and disturbances following Ukraine's presidential election Sunday. That advice is in effect until Dec. 7.
The election results are in dispute and many police forces have gathered around the rallies in Kiev.
U.S. citizens are urged to avoid the demonstrations and areas around them.
The State Department cited reports that certain intercity travel in Ukraine is now restricted and buses and trains to Kiev have been canceled.
Americans who travel to Ukraine are urged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Kiev or check the State Department's travel Web site.

Coming out for a Soros backed socialist like Yushchenko who doesn't support the Bush White House and would have no problem with stabbing Bush in the back if he needed help is stupid.
Putin is going to show how one puts a stop to Soros, remeber that Jon Queri came way to close to winning directly because of this dead man walking.
The pro-Yushchenko web site Ukrayinska pravda, however, openly mourned Kerry 's defeat, predicting that Bush's re-election would only make matters worse for Ukraine. "The Bush administration will continue making efforts to keep the mock anti-terror coalition, which Ukraine has joined, together. And it will turn a blind eye to human rights abuses and encroachments on freedom of speech in Ukraine," the website speculated.
This gloomy prediction is in line with the jealous mistrust of Bush's administration that is widespread among Ukraine's liberal and nationalist opposition. Many of those Ukrainians who oppose Kuchma's government believe that Bush tacitly agreed to overlook corruption and undemocratic practices in Kyiv in exchange for Kuchma' s support for the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq. "Ukraine's presence in Iraq will push it further away from Europe bringing it closer to America.
America's focus on Iraq will push Ukraine onto the sidelines of U.S. foreign policy," Ukrayinska pravda continued. "During Bush's first term, foreign aid to Ukraine shrunk by almost $100 million, and it will shrink further. This will mean fewer exchanges between students, teachers, military personnel, and parliamentarians," the opposition website warned.
He needs to be stopped.
Yushchenko is a socialist, putting him in power over a corrupt oligarchy does nothing for our national interests.
Yushchenko wouldn't piss on Bush if he were on fire, screw him.
