There's a big difference between amnesty and guest work program.

If you keep saying that, it may eventually be true. And if you actually buy the well worn promise of enforcement "later" in exchange for amnesty now...well I've got a bridge...

Making illegal people legal is amnesty. Putting a "temporary worker program" label on it doesn't make it any less of an amnesty.

One thing you can take to the bank: There will be nothing temporary about this program. Illegal aliens getting "temporary" cards from Bush will never be forced to leave the USA. After all, who's ever going to make them leave? Bush? (LOL) His successor? (not likely). No, unless a Bush-amnestied illegal becomes a felon, he or she is here for good.

I myself would never vote for Hillary.
But I would have voted for anyone talking about this seriously this year no matter what party, and it is one reason I want to look at Tom Tancredo for 2008.

OK, I'll give this a shot. I think she's going to say this:

on tax increases -- say she's not going to raise taxes, but she's not going to cut them either

on gay marriage, say she opposes it. That one's basically a freebie, almost everyone actually opposes this.

on abortion, say she's going to leave the law the way it is about abortion, but isn't going to allow anything new that's not already allowed.

on illegal immigration, say she opposes it and will do more than the Republican party will do to stop it.

I think she knows exactly how to cause the maximum amount of trouble possible, and that's not by moving to the left at all.

She wants to be President. She doesn't care if she's a leftist or a rightist in order to be President. It's about power, not ideology.

It is 4 years away- maybe one of her crimes will come as an indictment(campaign finance fraud) Ashcroft is gone- can't blame him if it happens. But this sly dog uses people like Joe Kennedy- she is a true mafia machine - working her way to the top- I watched her slyness make little sly innuendos about Condi last weekend and those eyes halfway close and she looks away and out comes the poisonous pap- she is truly diabolical in the way she plots ahead. But Bush does it with a smile!

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has been focusing on the issue of immigration reform and border security - taking hard-line positions...

This proves that Hildebeast lurks on FreeRepublic and saw my Only Vanity Ever from two years ago:

Democrats need an issue-- what about immigration?

TOM TANCREDO 2008 = LAST HOPE TO SAVE AMERICA

Come of FREEPERS. Don't be disheartened. It's time to get behind Rep. TANCREDO.

Only a principled conservative will defeat HILLARY on immigration issue.

Only a principled conservative will keep our base solid and energized.

...and TOM TANCREDO is a principled conservative.

Hillary can say whatever she wants, mhx. And move wherever she wants. Left. Right. Center. It doesn't matter.

There are still far too many people in those pesky red "fly-over" states who despise Hillary and her constantly "re-invented" and re-packaged Liberal/Marxist/Leninist claptrap than supposedly "adore" her.

She can run in 2008 if she wants. She'll just get creamed worse than Kerry did a few weeks ago.

Jack.

I have no doubt that Hillary will fake going to the center and make a play for POTUS in 2008. I don't think she'll get the nomination because almost everyone(except the zealots)know she's unelectable. Sooooooooooooooo polarizing....
I fear a candidate like John McCain more. I don't trust him as a conservative. He's loyal to the party but doesn't share our values. He's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too popular among fools.

Whether or not it's technically "amnesty", I'm starting to believe that the real issue isn't about votes or alienating the Latino vote, per se, but is just about cheap labor. This gives me the impression that the typical Democrat unions are getting killed by the flood of cheap labor, and putting pressure on Democrats to act, if they want to retain the union vote, as opposed to the immigrant vote.

I was working with a Democrat who just got out of the Navy and I mentioned to him that I didn't understand why Democrats seem to support open border policies since they hurt union wages. The main reason I noticed this is that it's becoming increasingly less likely to see a construction crew building a house or paving a road that is not almost entirely Mexican, with the only white/black people being the foremen. He was really surprised to hear me mention this because a couple of days before, he had applied for a position with a construction company, but was told that he was not qualified for the position because he didn't speak Spanish since the company just hired Mexican laborers. Sure, he could maintain a CIWS/Phalanx system, but he wasn't qualified to manage a crew of Mexican construction workers.

Just a thought, but it doesn't even matter if the people are made "legal" or not, so long as they keep pouring across the border to build houses, pave roads, wash dishes, mow lawns, pick vegetables, etc. Personally, I think it's worse than legitimizing them because this keeps them in the permanent low-wage market, coast to coast.

This will piss off just about everybody here but there is a higher truth that the real powers that be understand. We live in a welfare state and it more or less works. Our real competition on this planet is China and we at least have to keep up with them. The only way for that to happen is if we make Mexico defacto part of the US. So it takes a generation or two to re-educate them. We have no alternative. There are only 60 million of them down there. We can absorb them all and in one generation their birthrate will be as flat as ours is now. That's what prosperity does for you. Makes you selfish and unwilling to surrender your life to raise six kids.

Mexico is a wealthy land. Oil and minerals. Workers. As the world becomes more and more one big capitalistic playground ... lines on maps just don't mean that much. If we are worried about losing our culture (and I ask WHAT culture) then we will just have to work hard to preserve it (whatever IT is).

You can bitch about this until hell freezes over. It will do absolutely no good. I say if you can't beat em ... join em. I've always gotten along ok with Mexican Mexicans. It's the American Mexicans that give me the most grief. We just need to close up the black market and make sure that everyone pays their taxes and all employers pay into FICA.

It's like income tax. Sure it stinks but its not a total failure. The Italians have a saying. You must arrange yourself. Work the system.

How many times does the President and those around him say that his proposals are NOT AMNESTY?! He's said he's against amnesty so many times,I've lost count.

President Bush is disingenuous on this subject. His proposal would legalize millions of illegal aliens, so it's an amnesty.

From what I've read,it's like the old Bracero Program - guest worker and with time limits.

The old bracero programs didn't legalize illegal aliens, so this is different.

Hillary, like all POLITICIANS will sell their soul for one term. She doesn't care about immigration, the polls just say it is an important topic.

So what's the GOP's excuse?

More than any other leader of either political party, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has been focusing on the issue of immigration reform and border security - taking hard-line positions that appeal to frustrated Republicans in a move that could guarantee her enough red state support to win the White House in 2008.
