I thought Foggy Bottom was the euphemism for the CIA.

What?! A Condi Rice cartoon that doesn't compare her to Butterfly McQueen or have her speaking in Ebonics or portray her with Stepin Fetchit-lips?

And Chuck Asay calls himself a political cartoonist???

Nope....it's for the State Department. Always has been.

"I thought Foggy Bottom was the euphemism for the CIA."

No, it's the State Dept. because of where their building is. Foggy Bottom is actually the real name of a DC neighborhood, it's weird, you see it on all the maps, etc. down there.

I like it better than those racist cartoons of Doonesbury, Danziger, Rall, etc.

Where in the District?

By Michael Balz
Hoya Staff Writer

Only one stop away from Georgetown’s surrogate metro stop in Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom is home to the George Washington University as well as some of Washington’s most elite institutions, the Watergate Hotel and the Department of State among them.

Nope. This CIA is, variously:
- "puzzle palace"
- "the company"
- Kerry for President, Langley Office

No, Foggy Bottom is a neighborhood between the White House area and Georgetown. It's home to the State Department and George Washington University.

Going back some 30 plus years, wasn't Foggy Bottom also the locale from which stripper Fanny Fox famously exited the vehicle of the drunken bigshot Rat Congressman Wilbur Mills?

Trying to remember - damned oldtimes' disease.

It used to be a swamp (wetlands for those born after ~1970) as was most of the rest of DC.

Now the place is a 'RAT thinking alligator infested swamp of offices and needs a good combination drain commissioner and alligator wrestler.

That place would be the Tidal Basin, likely not far from the state department.

How long before the internal hacks at State begin whining to the press like they did at CIA vs. Goss?

Rice always comes off as a bit timid and nervous on TV to me. However, she didn't go from where she came from to where she is now by being a wimp, I don't think.
