LOS ANGELES University of California regents approved general guidelines for their expectations yesterday, briefly addressing issues including attendance, participation and ethics.
The proposal was initiated by Regent Ward Connerly, who said he is concerned about inconsistent attendance and levels of participation among board members. The guidelines lacked any specific rules or means for discharge.
The issue of absenteeism was raised earlier this summer when The San Diego Union-Tribune published an analysis showing some regents were missing two-thirds of their assigned committee and board meetings.
One regent, Haim Saban, who had not attended a full board meeting in more than two years, retired in September.
Regents are appointed by the governor to 12-year terms, and there is no mechanism for removing them from the board.
The guidelines state trustees are expected to prepare for, attend and participate in assigned committee and board meetings.
Board members also are expected to act ethically, and fulfill fiduciary responsibilities.
Although Connerly pushed for a rule to require the board chairman to contact regents who repeatedly miss meetings, others said it is unnecessary.
Are you a member of the 6-figure employment program for state employees?
If not, you are missing out on the gravy train of a lifetime..
You think that the least they could do is show up.
What a laugh ! The liberal left laying down guidelines for itself...HAR!!! Since when did liberals follow any rules or laws or any other form of value system??? (except their own)...
