You mean there was a time when you stopped questioning their patriotism?
Privately, no. But the caterwauling about their protesting the war saying that it WAS patriotic to do so went on and on. So, with the desire to either leave the country or secede leaves no doubt in rational people's minds that they are un-patriotic and calls into question their loyalty.
