The more educated hispanics would tend to vote for Bush --- which is why Rove's exit polls in the suburbs showed the 42% but one good thing in the barrios and colonias is that voter turn out is very light.
The real problem is with the lump together word "hispanic" which means very little --- Cuban-Americans have always been good Republican voters and the people often referred to as Mexican-Americans include people whose families have never lived in Mexico and who likely speak only English and are fully assimilated and fresh arrivals from Mexico --- some legal, some illegal -- some professional class but 70 to 80% of Mexico is illiterate and poverty-stricken and dependent on government programs when they bring their families here. A middle class hispanic suburb isn't going to vote the same as the barrios where everyone is on food stamps and expects free health care.
Of course republicans won't be able to win if only people of english heritage - anglos - vote GOP. We'll need the votes of plenty of other whites and non whites, including hispanics who's loyalties lean more towards the US than mexico, as well.
The rest can go p*ss up a rope.
