CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Nearly 700 alleged Islamic militants have been released from jail during the past two months, Egypt's Interior Ministry said Sunday.
At least 200 of the detainees were freed Saturday as a gesture to mark the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr, which began Sunday in Egypt and ended the holy month of Ramadan, said Montasser el-Zayat, a lawyer who specializes in cases of Islamic radicals.

This is insane. Many of the worst Islamo-fascists, including Al-Zawahiri, Al-Zaquawi, and the dude who assassinated Sadat long ago were previously arrested by either Egypt or Jordan and then released. When you are fortunate enough to get ahold of these types, you must never relent and show 'mercy'.... You CANNOT predict from among the ranks of Islamo-fascists who the worst killers will turn out to be. Consider the supposedly 'safe' inmates from Guantanamo who have been released, and a good number of them have resumed their killing ways. Best to execute these scumbags, or else give them life in a dark hole, but for God's sake don't release them....!
