Milosevic sends condolences over Yasser Arafat's death

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro (AP) _ Slobodan Milosevic, who is on trial at the U.N. war crimes tribunal, has sent a letter of condolences to the Palestinians over the death of Yasser Arafat, the former president's aides said Friday. The pro-Milosevic group called Sloboda (Freedom), which is aiding the their leader's defense before the tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, gave no other details about the letter. The group only said it was addressed to the Palestinian people and leadership. Milosevic was charged for genocide and crimes against humanity for his role in the Balkan wars of the 1990s. He was arrested and handed over to the Hague tribunal in 2001, a year after he was removed from power by a pro-Western coalition.

Slobo, you magnificent bastard!  You couldn't carry Yasser's jock.  The lion's share of those your men killed were terrorist KLA members who had it coming to them.  Yasser, on the other hand, took out women and targeted children.  Heck, Wesley Clark, Maddy Albright, and The Arkansas Love Machine all have more blood on their hands than you have on yours.  Even Jake Reno has you likely lapped in the kill-a-thon.

"...The Arkansas Love Machine"

Man, read that and it gave me a belly laugh and grossed me out at the same time.

True, but if you're going to go around misrepresenting the nature of Slobo's campaign agianst Kosovo's Albanians, you're not really one to cast aspersions at others, are you?

The lion's share of those your men killed were terrorist KLA members who had it coming to them.

Given the abundance of evidence to the contrary, that's just a stupid thing to say, Owl. Slobo's a murderous scumbucket, and lining up behind him on anything does you no credit whatsoever.

I'm not lining up behind the man, his politics make me nauseous.  I will say though, following that trail, time and again the accusations of his being behind ethnic cleansing (or in most cases ethnic cleansing taking place at all) have fallen apart.

My take on it is that Penny Marshall and her friends made that JUDGMENT movie, which was wholesale propaganda, and much of the west bought into it.  Now, just like the "Jenin massacre" when it becomes time to pull out the evidence and count the bodies, it looks a whole lot less horrific than we'd originally been led to believe.

Even Christiana Amanpour (sp) that CNN propagandist, wasn't able to produce much to incriminate the Serbs or Milo.  Kind of makes me wonder.

Until I actually see evidence, I'm not convinced.  Oh, the guy was likely a kleptocratic fascist, but that's not what the world court is trying him for.

WTF are you talking about? What trial are you following? It can't possibly be Slobo's ICTY trial.

You're clue bag appears to be devoid of any contents, Owl - Penny Marshall didn't make the "Judgement" video, that's merely a recapitulation of the garbage Living Marxism chose to print.

Why is it garbage, you ask? Because at the libel trial over the issue, Living Marxism's editor and the author of the article recanted, abjectly and completely, vindicating the original news broadcasts (which Marshall was responsible for, and which you are confusing with "Judgement").

You'll be able to play the "until I see the evidence" card for as long as you keep your eyes closed, Owl, but in doing so you are only playing the fool.

Arafat: Bush sends condolences

Washington - President George W Bush's has issued a statement on the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Issued by the White House, the statement reads:

"The death of Yasser Arafat is a significant moment in Palestinian history. We express our condolences to the Palestinian people."

"For the Palestinian people, we hope that the future will bring peace and the fulfillment of their aspirations for an independent, democratic Palestine that is at peace with its neighbours."

"During the period of transition that is ahead, we urge all in the region and throughout the world to join in helping make progress toward these goals and toward the ultimate goal of peace."

Owl, you are right on the substance of the issue concerning the "Judgment" movie, although, as Hoplite points out, "Judgment" was a refutation of the concentration camp story, not in support of it.

The movie, as well as LM's original article 'The picture that fooled the world' show conclusively that the supposed "prisoners", including the emaciated Fikret Alic, were not encircled by the fence separating them from the journalists but were on the outer side of the fence and they were not in any way physically confined. Fikret Alic was not starved by the Serbs but had tuberculososis as a cause of his emaciation.

It is clear from the article and the movie that Penny Marshall's and ITN's reporting was utterly dishonest and maliciously misleading. Unfortunately, LM's Mick Hume did not really fight ITN's "libel" suit and lost on technicalities of this absurd law, which has no equivalent in the US. He was outspent by ITN and presumably bribed or threatened as well because he understandably did not want to lose his position as a columnist for the London Times and be an outcast from the mainstream press. The fact remains that, as you wrote, the Trnopolje "concentration camp" story was a "wholesale propaganda", as is much of what much of the liberal and mainstream press has written about the Balkans.

Once again we see the bizarre "Turks and Albanians bad, anti-Israel Arabs good" mentality so prevalent in some circles.

Has the Likud party recruited security forces from out of Israeli jails and then set them loose upon the Palestinians?

Nobody's saying the KLA weren't bad. It's just that Slobo was worse.

Quite frankly, I grow tired of the endless repetition of easily accessible information that these threads engender - if you want to know why I hold the position I do in regards to the Balkans, simply read up on the subject.

Nor do you (or they) seem particularly perturbed by the fact that the Albanians in Kosovo now get carte blanche to kill Serbs and to destroy Serbian property.

If you're looking to engage someone with facile rhetoric such as this, you've come to the wrong person.

As I said, I'm not interested in recapitulating events in the Balkans when you can easily avail yourself of information on the subject and shough off your errant opinions without my help.

Slobodan Milosevic, who is on trial at the U.N. war crimes tribunal

And this "trial" has been going on for how long?! And it is scheduled to end when?!

My, aren't we smug.

No, just tired - do some research on the subject. Your questions about collateral damage will seem amusingly naive in retrospect.

54. The deliberate and widespread or systematic campaign of terror and violence directed at the Kosovo Albanian population was executed by forces of the FRY and Serbia, acting at the direction, with the encouragement, or with the support of Slobodan MILOSEVIC, Milan MILUTINOVIC, Nikola SAINOVIC, Dragoljub OJDANIC, Vlajko STOJILJKOVIC and others known and unknown. Forces of the FRY and Serbia undertook the operations targeting the Kosovo Albanians with the objective of expelling a substantial portion of the Kosovo Albanian population from Kosovo in an effort to ensure continued Serbian control over the province. source

Your "research" is only as credible as your sources

And if you don't do any research at all, you're what, exactly?
