AMSTERDAM — Independent conservative MP Geert Wilders has lashed out against the government and claimed it has failed to answer important questions about the murder of Theo van Gogh.

Wilders said he was shocked and angered by the murder on 2 November in Amsterdam. The government response to questions about it was "below par", he said.

He said suspects who are currently under observation should be arrested tomorrow and expelled from the country the following day.

"When the current legal situation does not allow this, the cabinet should introduce an emergency law that does," he said.

The Liberal VVD party — which is in the government coalition with the Christian Democrat CDA and Democrat D66 — accused the cabinet of being naïve about Muslim extremism.

VVD leader Jozias van Aartsen said government ministers ignored the party's calls for tougher legal measures to combat extremism.

"Dialogue is important, but not the number one measure. You don't reach out to extremists with a government information campaign," he said.

To drive home his point, Van Aartsen said: "This murder is not due to failed integration. The murderer is not a poor, lonely immigrant. Mohammed B.'s profile is different. The killing was a product of international Jihad. It is political violence".

Earlier, MPs had indicated that the fate of Interior Minister Johan Remkes depended on the contents of the government's letter to parliament being sufficiently convincing.

Remkes — who is in charge of the police and the security service AIVD — has been accused of not dealing effectively with the threat from Islamic extremists."

As he is a member of the VVD, his survival at least in part depends on the continuing support of his party colleagues in parliament.

The debate was continuing on Thursday evening.

Not so sure that letting them go free in another country is a good idea. How about throwing them in jail---or bringing them to the gallows?

More on Geert:
Police in the Netherlands have arrested two men who allegedly called for the beheading of a Dutch politician in the name of Islam.

The men, both Dutch nationals, are accused of inciting the murder of Geert Wilders, a right-wing member of Parliament.

Mr Wilders spoke out against immigration following the killing last week of director Theo van Gogh who had made a short film critical of Islam.

Mr Wilders recently split from his mainstream Liberal Party, the junior coalition partner, because he opposed Turkey's candidacy for the European Union.

He says he will set up his own anti-immigration party following the murder of Mr van Gogh.

A letter found pinned to Mr van Gogh's body with a knife bore the same signature that was used in an open letter threatening Mr Wilders, posted on a mainstream website for Dutch Moroccans.

Opinion polls show Mr Wilders' popularity has soared with estimates that he would win 12 per cent of the votes if elections are held now.

This murder is not due to failed integration

The single most important point, one that needs to be hammered home to all the "we just need to assimilate them" shills and apologists in this country.

The killing was a product of international Jihad.

Watch it. They'll take away your EU citizenship card!

"watch it, they'll take"

actually this is close to true. in most of Europe today you cannot legally opine that some set of peoples or religion acts is posing a problem. any assertions have to be made about individuals.

these well intended limitations on free speech have made it almost impossible to public discuss neighborhood problems.

welding the safety valve shut has consequences.
