The Van Gogh Murder
WSJ ^ | November 10, 2004 | WSJ

Posted on 11/10/2004 4:48:09 AM PST by Brilliant

Filmmaker Theo van Gogh was thinking of leaving his country, complaining that in today's Holland it was no longer possible to freely express one's opinion about religious matters. Sadly, he was proved right last week when a man with dual Moroccan-Dutch citizenship repeatedly shot and then almost decapitated Mr. van Gogh with a knife...

"Don't do it. Don't do it. Have mercy!" were Mr. van Gogh's last words, according to witnesses. But the note the killer pinned to Mr. van Gogh's body said, "There will be no mercy for the wicked," adding that America, Europe and the Netherlands "will go down."

This note seems to have instilled real fear in Dutch society. Many Europeans, and not only in the Netherlands, liked to think of Islamic terrorism as an exclusively American or Israeli problem. The gravity of the fact that many of the 9/11 terrorists lived and studied in Europe, where they planned and organized that attack, never really sunk in. Somehow, at least on an unconscious level, Europeans thought this unholy symbiosis could continue, where terrorists would use Europe as a safe haven for attacks only outside Europe. The train bombings in Spain were widely seen as a reprisal against Spain's participation in the "American" Iraq war...

At the same time, Europe needs to stop rationalizing the irrational hatred that possesses Islamic terrorists. Islamic terror is not the result of some "failed integration policy" or of some real or imagined Muslim grievance supposedly caused by U.S. Middle East policy. It is fueled by a totalitarian ideology that seeks world domination and the subjugation of infidels and the West. The sooner Europe comes to terms with this truth the sooner it will begin to combat the fanaticism that claimed the life of Mr. van Gogh.

Europeans look down their pointy noses at Americans for our reaction to 911. I think it's interesting to note that after 911, Americans did not bomb and burn mosques as they are now doing in the Netherlands in response to the much less significant murder of one individual by a muslim terrorist.

If people open their doors indiscriminately, they ought not be surprised at who comes in.

Note to self."FIGHT! to the Death!"

I get the feeling that this guy didn't put up a fight? anyone know what happened?

It may have not gotten that far if he would have tried to beat this guy at his own game.

Sounds like he might have thought the guy hw was dealing with was human.

I've lived on the European continent for about 5 years now. From what I've seen/heard it is clear to me that the Europeans will not wake up (or at least admit) they have a problem until they lose a couple of thousand people. The Europeans seem to live in a complete state of denial.

In fact, after 9/11 a number of Americans started building bridges with Moslems, visiting mosques etc. Some also volunteered to become human shields in Iraq.

Would you prefer that the Dutch did this, or would you prefer that they blew the doors off a few mosques?

I don't have a preference either way, but it seems very interesting that they criticize us, and then they themselves react in a neanderthal way to a much less significant attack. It seems pretty hypocritical.

He had been shot six times before having his throat slit. He wasn't in much of a position to fight back when he was begging for his life...

You are exactly right. It happened to us and it happened to them.

Sorry, I gave you a false either/or question.

You're quite right to rib the corrupt political classes (that exist across much of Europe) for their self-serving hypocrisy.

It does warm the cockles of my heart to see violence matched with violence, though! Better a good war than an evil peace, etc.

I am sick of Euro P#ssies!

Witnesses lets just watch him die.

I for one, maybe unfortunatley, would put my life on the line to save and unknown person who was getting shot.

these people are typical I have seen it in Amsterdam. they just stand there and look. they dont try to help you.

I know this from personal experience. Euro trash.

really if you saw a guy getting shot what would you do? Sit there and watch or try to diversion some attention or charge the bastards?

Jesus! I hate witnesses they should call the men who are called witnesses what they are. Cowards!

America has to keep these subhuman monsters out, as well.

The monsters are obviously giving stupid Canada a free ride while they establish a base there for their vile propaganda.

America, Europe and the Netherlands "will go down."

Well, he's probably right on 2 out of 3.

America however has been given a 4 year reprieve from that prediction.

Time will tell if our politically correct way of allowing even more mosques to be built is good for us. I believe we will be attacked again.

They are cowards because their government has disarmed them. Only the criminals have guns.
