Potato soda? That's just gross
San Jose Mercury News ^ | Tue, Nov. 09, 2004 | Allison Linn

SEATTLE - Jones Soda takes the idea of a liquid diet to a new low. How does Green Bean Casserole Soda strike you? And how about an aggressively buttery-smelling Mashed Potato Soda?

Even the creators of the fizzy concoctions at this small Seattle soda company can hardly stomach the stuff. But last year's unexpected success of the Turkey & Gravy Soda means another round of bizarre food-flavored soft drinks. As an added bonus -- they're calorie-free.

This week, Jones Soda launches a full meal deal of five Thanksgiving soda flavors, from the bile-colored Green Bean Casserole to the sweet -- but slightly sickly -- Fruitcake Soda. Last year's Turkey & Gravy is also back on the menu.

Hope it doesn't last long. Here in SEAsia, Fish Ice Cream was big last winter. I have not seen it lately. Of course, a local fruit called duriem and which has all the inviting aroma of an open sewer, has had its ice cream, cookies, bread, turnovers, etc. Also, durien has great staying power.

If they are calorie free, they could still offer the "taste" of off limit items like butter and other delights.

I doubt anyone would want to drink 12oz of it though.

Maybe they should make butter flavored chewing gum.

"PATENT PENDING!"

The buttered mashed potatos beat out sweet potatos.

Had some of the turkey and gravy last year; beef bullion in soda water.

It doesn't come close to some of the things we've tried from a local Asian market (the Great Wall Mall for Seattle area folks). The other day I had an egg flavored soy based soda from the Vietnamese deli. Interesting.

I'll have to look for that. So far the only thing I've rejected out of hand are the stewed chicken feet in gravy they serve at the market deli. It's not the taste that concerns me, how in the heck do you eat them?

Doesn't sound any worse than some of the protein drinks I had to stomach while trying to rebuild my red blood cell count. Some of that stuff was wretched...like drinking a meat milkshake.

You should see Harry Potter Jelly Bellys:

Vomit
Booger
Dirt
Ear wax
Spinach
Sardine

They claim they really taste like the names.

Eww...

At Disney's Epcot, they have this igloo pavilion owned by Coca-Cola where you can sample sodas from around the world. Most of them are horrible....especially "Beverly"(don't ever drink Beverly! ;-) ) I remember them having watermelon soda which was pretty good, but nothing as wacky as Greenbean soda!

I've only had chicken feet at dim sum places. You basically spit out the many bones. It's mostly skin.

Thailand. Im sure durien is big in Malaysia but I only know it by the Thai -- Durien. It looks like a soccer ball with big spikes (not to be confused with jackfruit which is great). I have not seen the fish ice cream since I got back from 7 months in USA this September. The ice cream was featured in the Nation and Bangkok Post newspapers and was said to be well recieved by the Japanese tourists. I will stick with Malaysian satay -- none better :>
