I think the military is wanting some enlistees who have at least held a rifle before going to the range.

Ok i know im not an expert in the military or anything but umm i'm thinking if there is a shortage of rifles becasue the program is so popular maybe instead of taking away the rifles over 45 for each school you let them keep them. Then you ORDER MORE RIFLES for the other programs.Does that sound about right ?

A "good news", "bad news" thread. I was worried by the title that it was going to be all bad news.

An increasing demand for WWI vintage rifles?

Just get a bunch of Moisin Nagant M44s for a few bucks each. They're a good solid rifle to throw around.

Just another thought. Perhaps a some U.S. rifle manufacturer would be persuaded to make some for the JROTC programs and donate them. This would be good PR for their company. Is there a knowledgeable freeper out there who knows which U.S. Rifle manufacturers might be persuaded to do this. Maybe freepers could alert them to the need and use a little of our own persuasive abilities to encourage them to do this.
