The old sergeant was continually on his men about the importance of taking care of their feet and thus their boots. He had just noticed that one of his men was wearing a pair of boots about 2 sizes too small and it irritated him. He had been on this particular soldier many times about his boots but every time he saw him he had on a new pair but they never seem to fit.
Private, GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE! Yes sergeant! I thought I told you to get a pair of boots that fit you soldier. Yes, sergeant but I can never seem to get it just right on the size. Shit get out of my sight and the next time I see you, you had better be in a good pair of boots or youll be doing guard duty for the next 6 months. Yes sir!
Evening fell and while he was patrolling the squads area he noticed that the private he had scolded that day was gone. Aw, shit he thought. No one was supposed to be outside the perimeter this time of night. Glancing around the sergeant just happened to catch a glimpse of the soldier rounding the corner of a building. Following as quietly as he could he heard voices just before he rounded the buildings corner.
Cautiously he peered around the corner and saw the soldier giving a pair of boots to a very skinny young boy who was bare foot. The kid hugged the soldier and there were tears in his eyes. The sergeant also noticed that he was giving away all his MREs.
The next morning the old sergeant saw the private just as they were about to go out on patrol. He was in a pair of old ragged surplus boots that had not seen a shine in years. Nice boots private. Yes, sergeant! The sergeant turned around and walked off, a smile spreading across his face.

Giving away tax payer bought US government owned property -- why stop at just shoes?
To a country we just liberated (if this is from Iraq) ... giving away a pair of boots and some MREs why not... the goverment in washington has given away much more...and wastes much more on more unimportant things like a zebra mussell study that cost 13 million dollars...
So, you really think humanity should stop at our borders?
I think good PR is worth a lot more than pairs of boots. These people will let everybody they know about the loving jesters of this soldier. They will probably never forget. Money can't buy that.
"and wastes much more on more unimportant things like a zebra mussell study that cost 13 million dollars..."
And Just How MUCH Did ARAFAT The Egyptian Terrorist GET...errr...EXTORT From The USA and other Countries Around The World...
MULTI BILLIONS OF DOLLAR$...and The EVIL OLD TOAD Just CROAKED...his Wife and Minions Are FIGHTING OVER WHO'S GONNA GET THE BANK CODES AND THOSE BILLION$.
That's Why They Have Stalled The Declaration Of His DEATH.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!
IT'S THE MONEY...STUPID WORLD.
I think you might want to do a little research on the zebra mussel. There's good reason for spending the money as the darned thing spreads so fast it is blocking water intake gates, dams, and all sorts of things. Cleaning them out is costing millions and is going to get worse. It's a huge problem.
ok fine bad example.... the only reason I brought it up it was the first federally funded study I could think of.. and I do know their effects i lived in wisconsin for 20 years and the tend to be a problem up there.... but the point was the goverment spends and wastes more in a election cycle the a million of our soldiers giving away a million pairs of boots and MRE's.. .
excellent point
Arafat is real toasty now in a place where the millions in extortion money won't do him any good.
That is, IF he's dead; his condition has been misreported so many different ways over the past few days that I won't be sure until there's a funeral!
