TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 05, 2004 12:37:33 AM ] WASHINGTON: After the electoral fireworks, the light. Indian-Americans will have their first dibs in the Bush II White House at a Diwali celebration to be hosted by the President next week.

A tradition begun by the Bush I White House last year will be continued this year on November 10, when community elite will troop into 1600, Pennsylvania Avenue for the festival of lights.

Bush was not present last year - he was in Hawaii on his way back from a trip to East Asia - but community leaders hope he will be there this time to accept their felicitations on his stunning victory.

''Indian-Americans backed the President in a big way and we hope to congratulate him personally,'' Dr Sampath Shivangi, a Mississippi physician who was among those instrumental in getting the White House to host the event said. Last year's event was hosted by Bush's chief political strategist Karl Rove, who masterminded the President's victory this time too....

Maybe W can show them to a Texas-style barbeque in the Rose Garden while they're here.

LOL (to yours)!

Sheesh.

And have a Eid-a-fir Ramadan Break Fast Muslim celebration with Baby Back Ribs and Chicharrones.

And how about a big fest for Mormons topped off with endless cups of Maxwell House Coffee.

Or, could have Johnny Walker Red Label rolled out for the Amish Party. Etc. etc. etc.

Actually, I happen to LOVE Indian food---it's among my favorites. No, they won't likely have beef, but Tandoori (grilled) chicken and lamb will likely be served---and don't knock it until you've tried it (I assure you, you'd love it, too). As for Diwali, it's a beautiful festival, and we shouldn't knock that either. Everyone wears beautiful, colorful clothes, and the music is very cool. I think it's smart of Bush to host such an event, and very open-minded too.

Thanks! I love Indian food and culture. Americans from India are an asset to our society - in general they are good, upright, hard working people. America and India are natural allies. I hope we can develop that alliance over the next few years for mutual benefit.

Okay, now you've got me going. I am definitely going to have to go out for Indian food tonight. Biriyani, yes! And I, too, think Indian culture is great. I actually love the music, the art, everything. Never have been to India, but would love to go. Barring that, I have a great Indian restaurant within a block of where I live. Masala dosa has become comfort food to me.

Happy Diwali (Indian Festival of Light ) to all Freepers

Thank you very much for your warm words! I've never heard of Diwali. Is it an Indian cultural festival or religious festival? Or both...

What's it all about? Thanks in advance for the education.
